I am in the market for an inexpensive, easily packed camera to take shots of nature and stuff on an upcoming vacation. Like all Americans, I want the very best quality in the tiniest package for the smallest price tag.

Any suggestions?

I have another 3 months on my contract and my cell phone takes crappy pictures. Plus, where I am going I won't get reception so I don't intend to even bring it. Next advisor, please? :)

Two cheapest cameras on that list are $350. The PowerShot, I have a crappy old one in a drawer. I will never buy one of those again. Not sure about that Olympus Tough. I will look into it more.

I have a Nikon D7100, but I love my Canon S95 for quick and easy shots, and it does very well with landscapes, nature, indoor, outdoor...everything, really. I think the current version is the S110, which is $250 at Amazon.

You can browse the site by price.

I would say that you have to decide if you want a good camera or an inexpensive camera. I always had great film cameras but I was slow to embrace digital, mostly because of price, but once I did I realized that inexpensive digital cameras do not take especially good photos. They do not get white balance and color saturation correct, they have very limited options in terms of programming them and most importantly, all of them have crap lenses. Too often people get lost in the MP debate and forget that no matter how many megapixels a camera has, if the image that gets there looks terrible then it will only be capturing a crappy picture, admittedly in great detail, but that is even more annoying. If you are not going to buy something that takes good photos then I agree with updating your cellphone and using it. The Samsung S5 has a 15 MP camera, and while there is no lens to speak of, for just goofing around photos it is tolerable, provided you have a LOT of light. Another weakness of inexpensive cameras, the flash tends to be anemic.

there's a warehouse deal for $241.38 on a used - like new one.

I would recommend picking up an external charger for it and an extra battery.

Good inexpensive cameras tend to involve long optical zooms.

Hrm, this is a thought. Verizon has a deal (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/device/smartphone/samsung-galaxy-s5?&zipRdr=y) right now. (sorry to smack you down so much earlier, Gelston, but you know, it's you)

My current camera is a Nikon Coolpix apparently. The prices don't look too bad to me: http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Compact-Digital-Cameras/index.page

This is what I use. It has all sorts of features, is easy to use, and is forgiving if you just leave it on auto 100% of the time like I do.
