You know them and love them. Old-style Ice-age claid. SOLD pending pickup
Will consider trades of equal value, looking for platemail for one of my other characters also or magic items.

You glance down to see a xenium hilted serrated laen claidhmore in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

You carefully examine the serrated laen claidhmore and determine that the weight is about 14 pounds..

You assess the claidhmore for structural weaknesses and strengths.
Careful examination indicates the serrated laen claidhmore has a base strength of 99 and a base durability of 265. You also determine the current integrity of the serrated laen claidhmore to be at 100.0%.
You heft the weapon a few times...but note nothing unusual about it. It appears to have standard claidhmore weighting (fantastic) to cause critical wounds.

You carefully inspect your serrated laen claidhmore.
After a careful inspection you determine that a xenium hilted serrated laen claidhmore requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively. It appears to be a modified twohanded sword.

Awseome claid. +5 enchant to those who aren't aware.

+15 enchant, the math is just done differently

Androidpk

15-10?

stormcrow
09-24-2014, 08:34 PM
Yes +15 enchant. Standard old-style claids were -10 based. This is +5 overall enchant, 10 for the negative enchant and 5 left over. But it's greatsword based meaning the AvD is 10 higher than a regular claid. So the overall bonus is the same compared to a new glaes claid: Just math done differently. However, you have a greatsword based weapon which is awesome against heavy armor unlike newer claids.

So the DF against plate is different for old style claids vs. new style? I had no idea ... thought it was just AvD, but krakiipedia numbers, if correct, confirm that the DF is higher.

Another benefit is wspec to a two-handed sword and getting the benefit with your old-style claidh and your backup blessed undead killing two-handed sword.

Correct. Old style claids are greatsword base.

stormcrow

if you look at my inspection of it .. it states modified greatsword which means it's a greatsword without a greatsword name. When you wspec to this it sets as a greatsword. Other than having ice-age metal, the greatsword base is what drives the old-styles prices up. They are really the best claids.

I can't wait to hear Ardwen scream when someone tries to get this lightened and it gets "fixed" by the GM.

stormcrow

by fixed they will only change the metal names but not the base of the weapon.

no reason to scream as this isnt a unique item, I'd still not convert it but thats just me, of course I do have an unconverted one already.

Are there any old bastard swords left that are unconverted, both in material and base?

Ardwen

hmm probably one or two, but they didn't sell them off the shelf anywhere I can recall, so any of them that exist were one ofs, much harder to find, I wonder if Krakii/Robet has any, I'll have to ask him
The only ones I can recall ever seeing offhand are an Iorake and a Rularon and both were seen ages ago.

If I recall correctly and I'm getting old now. Bastards were very rare even after the ice-age (similar to bastard-axes now). I think they were basically custom made weapons and I don't recall them being sold by vendors until after they released the new weapon bases: claid, flamberge, bastard, longsword and some other. Unfortunately they coded some fix onto the old style so if you gripped it or something (can't remember what the command was) but it would auto convert the weapon to a new version. The old version was broadsword/greatsword based.

I bought a lightning flaring laen bastardsword about 2 years ago but it had been converted to new style :(

Ardwen

bastardswords autoconvert when ya ggrip them, hard to find unconverted ones as almost noone uses the old syntax to swap grips.

Androidpk
09-25-2014, 07:41 PM

Ardwen

How about ice age greatswords? Claids aside.

Ardwen
09-25-2014, 07:54 PM
hmm theres a few of those, I have a couple somewhere, flamberges too, both were sold off the shelf after all

stormcrow

There was a very nice crit-weighted flamberge, an old one which was really a greatsword since there wasn't a flamberge weapon base yet. I want to say Celtar put it into the autoconvert chamber and changed it's base to the new style flamberge. Probably the best new-style out there. Well I did own a eahnor one once that had masterfully crit weighting. It was a nice one too.

Yeah, some crust bucket has a laen flamberge in his shop!

Celtar's was titanium right? Or am I thinking of another weapon. I had that eahnor sword for awhile as well. Excellent for bandits.

Didn't that eahnor flamberge sell fairly recently? I seem to recall one with a lot of weighting get moved, anyways.

Ardwen

Maybe it's a claid I'm thinking of. I just recall someone with a highly weighed titanium two hands sword and somehow the metal was converted.

Ardwen

titanium wouldn't convert, it wasn't an ice metal just a weird metal that got done for a few items

I have a titanium lockpick somewhere. Only one I've ever seen.

Ardwen

probably from one of the many random pick things, heck my workshop has a titanium table,

stormcrow

There was an invasion post ice-age where the critters carried some titanium shields and weapons. Also there was some slack alter standards back in the day and some people had weapons changed to titanium: Rozak comes to mind. ::duck::

Yeah, it was actually. Came out of a random generator at EG several years ago. Still the only one i've ever seen...it Lmaster appraises as golvern, iirc....well, lmaster appraise doesn't really work like that, but it's whatever precision and astonishing strength like a golvern.

There are actually a number of those I think. I have several "shadowy black titanium lockpicks" sitting around somewhere. I think Xiri made them for a merchant back in 2004 or so.

Ardwen

black titanium shields heh, also some merchant sold the titanium battleaxes, Triex has the only one I know of that remains.

Yeah. I hounded Wyrom about it once (or twice) and he made a battleaxe to tease me.
As far as actual weapons in game I know of a longsword and knife and I think a pain grip.

I had heavy black vultite falchion long time ago. I want to say 4x vibration flares. I had that thing a while. I caught the merchant Breighton one time and he put very heavy crit weighting on it and of course stovel annealed it to 8x's. Was a nice weapon.

correct .. falchions were a merchant item and highly prized since broadsword suck. I think I also had a heavy red one.
