The void black plate seems to have some sort of unusual protection against damage.

Your careful inspection of a suit of void black plate inlaid with pure white shields in its raised pauldrons allows you to conclude that it is plate armor that covers the torso, arms, legs, neck, and head.


It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of invar.




This armor has been designed to provide mechanical benefit to members of the Order of Voln. Some FLUFF verb traps are available to non-members, but unique abilties are bestowed ONLY on members. Due to its nature, the void black plate will repel anyone converted to Luukos who attempts to touch it, as well as preventing usage to anyone wearing or holding Shadow Death, Black Ora Jewelry, or Rapture Cloak items. Furthermore, it CANNOT be ensorcelled, which is by design.

The void black plate is currently TIER 3 and has the following options available:

*** NON-VOLN, and VOLN MEMBERS ***
Fluff: BOW, TAP, STARE, CLUTCH, and KNEEL

*** VOLN-MEMBERS ONLY ***
Fluff: PUSH, and EXHALE

* DS flares against undead foes. Base chance to flare of 15%, +5% for Voln Masters, +5% for Voln converts. Amount of DS applied equal to armor enchant, min. of +10, max. of +50.

* +10 passive Shear Fear resistance against undead.

* Automatic Symbol of Need upon death - half normal favor cost. Must already possess knowledge of the Symbol. Toggled on/off with WHISPER.

* Phantom critical padding augments DS flare. If flare triggered and attack goes through, it does so with critical padding in place. Amount of padding applied equal to half armor enchant, min. of 5 points, max. of 25 points.

* Locate nearby undead ability - cost of 5 units of favor. Activated with PONDER.

You can tell that the plate is as light as it can get.

Nice armor. I think people underestimate the value of the Voln scripts. With T4 for example, I can hunt the South Scatter without needing any lichbane. Since getting it added to my armor, I've never once experienced sheer fear.

To further your point arch, I think it is either undervalued or misunderstood. As a caster T4 on my doubles is a get out of jail card 2x per day. In a crawler stomach stunned?...hit F1 key and im transported to a quiet room on plane 5 to wait out the stun. Webbed, stunned, paralyzed...anything other than hard RT.

In a crawler stomach stunned?...hit F1 key and im transported to a quiet room on plane 5 to wait out the stun. Webbed, stunned, paralyzed...anything other than hard RT.

I don't know that they are misunderstood as much as I think it takes a special desire to hunt scatter and the rift and I feel that is where you get the most benefit from T4 voln armor, in general. I don't care how sweet Voln armor is, you couldn't pay me to switch from my COL/GOS casters or any other class to voln just so I could buy a limited item armor piece to help with the hunting area.

I tried scatter a handful of times and I just don't like the rift. I prefer warcamps, Nelemar and OTF much more.

In spite of relatively recent"improvements" to make it easier to get into the rift and hunt there, it still remains one of the more difficult places to go about your hunt. I like it that way; keeps out the riff raff. No more improvements please, or it would become.

Good point there Buck. But I do feel like the voln armor still holds up well in most capped situations...bandit sstrike, webbed in OTF, stunned in any area...etc. Ive been stunned by whatever cman in Nelemar 2, a sentry floats in. Using the get out of jail card free and sitting back in town is pretty nice. I was a skeptical switch from CoL to Voln. Personally it felt like Voln's powers were more "modern" and addressed current capped hunting issues. Of course CoL has not had its overhaul yet so that stands to reason.
