I generally really don't like home improvement shows. Mostly because I think they're about rich people indulging in richness.

Tonight, I flipped on Extreme Makeover Home Edition (because it's on before Desperate Housewives and nothing else is on) and lo and behold, in the first five minutes of the show, I'm hooked.

Why? Because the people they do this for are deserving. Anybody else watch this show? It's insane. The family tonight... they had to move out of the inner city, because these children's mother was killed by a stray bullet, some folks took them in and they're poor as shit living in a shitty house. And children and family services said, "Your house sucks so much we're taking the kids away from you if you don't fix it".. a family of eleven. They're sending them on a one-week vacation, and fixing up the house.

Crazy. I don't feel so bad watching this one.

The show is excellent. They have a good selection process, and it seems like the family chosen each week is more deserving than the last. Plus, the show gets real good ratings, so it seems like they'll be able to keep helping people for awhile.

Yeah, that show pretty much kicks ass. Take a family that's had some serious shit thrown at them, and build them a new house. It's not a new life - but it's a start.

On the other hand, Dr. Phil's Son's show "Renovate/Humiliate my life" is just retarded. And I feel pity for anyone who goes on that show.

Admit it. This show makes you HAPPY. HAPPY DAMNIT! It is a fun show to watch, for exactly this reason.

This is one of the few shows I try to catch every week.

It's so nice to see some people who actually need and deserve a break to receive one and the reactions of the families always make me misty eyed. :popcorn2:
