You hide to ambush, and then a scripting wizard/sorcerer group appears, kills the critters and takes your falchion. You try to explain the weapon is yours, but they ignore you and move on.

You follow the group, and it becomes apparent that this is an unmonitored scripting group. Apparently their script did not allow for the fact that you had a disk.

Eventually your falchion gets sold to the local pawnshop, and you buy it back.

Since some people believe that using REPORT to get your weapon back would be "tattling", what would you have done differently?

Assuming everything you just described was accurate, I'd report. Was the falchion unique or at least different enough that it would have warranted them checking on the boards before selling ? Because if so, it seems plenty of people do check first when they find something like that. So the fact that they didn't, as well as not responding to you, I think warrants a report to help you get it back without having to buy it back from pawnshop.

I would report/assist about it. AFK scripters have an instance they can play in, and this directly effects your game play.

I'd do a post about the weapon on PC, ask if anyone lost a weapon, without offering any additional information about the item, show complete unwillingness to get it sung to in order to help get it into the owners' hands, and put it entirely on the owner to step up.

The falchion wasn't anything special, at least not by the standards of a capped character. It was 4x and fairly easy to replace if needed.

But that isn't the point. Why should I have to replace a weapon just because some idiot is running a script that:

1. Isn't being watched
2. Doesn't allow for a hidden rogue who has a disk in the room

I consider the second issue to be more important than the first one. Either learn how to code or at least copy from another script, but if you are going to script you need to allow for disks. If you can't handle that, you shouldn't be scripting.

There are scripters, but I don't have issues with most of them. There seem to be a small number of players who run scripts that don't play nice with a rogue who hides and ambush, and that's where I have the occasional issue.

As much as I love giving you shit, Candor, about being a tattler.... this is one instance where I'd have gone to 11 and Judgmented them all in the middle of OTF, and had my friend Provoke spam until they all died. The whole unresponsive scripting thing is simply said: unacceptable. You are not wrong except in that you acted way too nicely. It shouldn't be tolerated. I don't give a flying fuck all if someone AFK scripts in the middle of nowhere. Doesn't hurt me at all. But OTF is populated. Heavily. If you AFK script, you risk fucking people up because you are afk.

That's what rattles me about why Candor didn't go ABFAB MURDERER on this in-so-far mystery asshat. Whether the following crews are always afk or not, I don't know. There's two 5+deep script crews in Nelemar. There's at least Three 5+deep in OTF. There's one at the end planes of the Rift, but it's only 3 people, and it's hilarious watching them, because you can't exactly run scripts when one of them gets rifted. So they're not afk, at least. But I've witnessed the Nelemar crews. At various times, straight automation. The OTF crews were so bad, I spent a week there hunting at cap and I said screw it, because one of the groups was running a pick-me-up script, and they searched one of my kills, picked up a vaalorn war hammer, stowed it, and kept going. That was after walking into my room, automatically looting an already dead critter, stealing the loot, and walking out. Naturally, I went and killed said individual, called a GM, and promptly said they were AFK botting. By that time, they were not, as I'd killed one of them and their script broke, and they were pissed. But, the GM gave me back my hammer, told them to make sure to pay close attention 'to the gaming environment', and sent them on their way. Candor needs to murder someone.

A freshly capped anyone should be able to kill a 10x capped anything if they know what they're doing.

Nah, rogue is one of the best for that. Just stalk them and wait for them to attack something so you know they're in offensive. Ambush an eyeball.

Depends on the weapon to be honest. Bog standard off the shelf weapon, i'd just get another one but post my experience here. My life's too short.

Trying not to be a hypocrite here when it comes to afk scripting. I've started script forging in the past, gone to get a cup of water and make a sandwich, and come back up to the screen. I've never AFK script hunted though..but who knows. If I had the coding skill I might have been tempted. (Actually I don't think I would...i'd be too afraid of losing shit.) But I can say with absolute certainly that if someone else's afk script hunting impacted on me negatively, I'd use every tool in my arsenal - in game and out - to deal with it.... and I consider myself a reasonably nice person. :grin:
