Don't know what the best item in the game is but the highest selling price I have ever seen is that set of red armor Ardwen is selling for 500 million, although i'm sure something has sold for more.

Best items in the game are those items that make something difficult or time consomming faster and easier.
DB items? No, fire throwing weapons? No. 2 hits per swing swords that can fireback on yourself? No.
Checking the crystalamulets and sergay's sites, I'd say, personnaly, that the best item would be the highest padded damage full plate (at least for a warrior).

the best item is something worth over 5 mil that someone gives to me for free.

What was that item that dispenses silver? I can't even remember that cat's name that had it.

Its really hard to say what the best item is unless you throw in a "for who." Those coin holding hands are nice in general to avoid damn exchange rates. Weight reducing containers are sweet too. My wizard would love a self-mana or unlimited 130 item.

What's so good about that set of red armor?

It's incredibly damage padded, which combined with redux, is just
I remember someone had a weapon that when you rubbed it you gained 1000 exp or something, I think Ardwen had it at one point in time. Took the GM's a while to fix him proper, and probably destroy the item.

40 rub blue crystal.

There is a sphere that turns mana into spirit, which basically means unlimited mana when joined with the Council. For pures, this would probably be the best item in the game.

I think lots of items would qualify as nominees for "best item". Broken down into categories you'd probably have:
Best "fluff":
That sketchbook that makes portraits of any room and person in the game.
Best illegal item:
That thing that made silver and experience when you messed around with it.
Best misc item:
The eye that can kill something instantly, although I think they've been nerfed.
Best weapon:
I like Sorrow just cause it's real interesting and well made, but there are a bunch of incredible crit weapons out there. Maruko's lightsaber was just cool too.
Armor:
Same with weapons, but that shadowy humanoid armor is cool.
Best item for obsolete game mechanics: For the droppage era, the pallbearer pack, which when you died, would pick up the first two things on the floor, (usually your weapon and shield), place them in the pack, and then teleport you to the temple.
A lot of the real interesting items you won't see anymore, simply because they were made when GS was small and GM's crafted items for specific players. (Lightsaber being one example).
Oh yeah, I forgot to add the Thingul Diamond, which, I think was perma-almost every spell in the game. Not sure though. I'm pretty sure its been lost.

Sorrow:?
Lightsaber:?
Doesn't Ardwen own all of the Estrion keys?
the key to Darkstone, Spider Temple, Pinefar, they take him to those places.
edited to add: heh, one of Estrion's keys to Pinefar would be, um, impossible.

I personally think the nicest item was a foghorn that fogged out of some unfoggable areas, I forget who owned it though.
Ooh ooh, and my super illegal hemp alter.
Stump's exploding cigars were pretty neat,
and whoever it be, the GM with the backwards Yankee cap, I forget who it was, but bless yer soul.

Bronze squares (when they worked)...nothing more satisfying after a crappy day then to run into tsc and give one a whirl....and the beauty of them was they were common.

My cleric's closing in on the cap so all I'd care for a 10x permablessed weapon is what I could sell it for. Most people'd cream over it. Lots of bards'd kill for a self-recharging unlimited use Master familiar instrument, and lots of wizards wouldn't give a shit. That mana for spirit thing, squares wouldn't give a shit either.

Thalior's Eye has not been nurfed. It doesn't quite kill instantly but close enough.
The Thingul Diamond has been lost forever. It cast 103, 107, 120, 430, and Curse in unlimitted amounts. It also had some extremely unique scripts that turned you crazy the more you used it. (However it was not as "sentient" an item as was stated from time to time.)
I've always liked the crystal ball that could basically teleport you to anyone anywhere.

Yeah, that teleport to anyone/anywhere ball would get my vote.

Personally I think DB items are very nice. Someone had a key that could take them anywhere in the game, supposedly. Those bottomless sacks are quite nice too.

Estrion's key is for Castle Darkstone alone. Four locations within the castle and one settable elsewhere. Coin hands have one drawback too, ever try to shop at a merchant with coins and not notes?
Kodos' painting is one of my favorite non-combat items.
Sorrow is likely the most amazing weapon, though the pure coraesine are pretty damned nice too.
Magically theres so many to choose from, basically every older spell is available in one unlimited item or another, with the exception of IMbed and Elemental Targetting.
And the pin that gave ya mana, coins and stats is indeed gone. 50000 exp a rub unlimited was silly, 100 silvers a turn and maxxed stats when ya pulled it. And it took em 4 days to fix Ardwen after finding that pin, and imagine that it was on a former GMs PC. All in all the items I've found on ex-GMs are sick really.

Ohyeah. Those chimes that would let you meditate and get the exp boost from it like a cleric. I think I heard they're gone but imagine what kind of sick nonsense you could pull if it worked with XXX. Mmmmm yummy.

Sorrow obviously.
Both Thalior's eyes.
Kai's belt.
The cloak of shadows.
The plate that requires 0 armor ranks and has 0 spell hindrance.
The fog beetle armor.
Ardwen's lochaber.
Blade's tower.
Celtic's landing deed.

Sorrow is just a scripted greatsword.
Best items in the game for me would be a 10X db pin, and an opals self charger.
Ardwen
10-02-2004, 07:05 PM
Unless ya hunt a very limited ammount no self charger is really that good. Now an unlimited opals is nice.

I want a crit weighted shield. Now that would be cool.

Hmm, whatever happened, if my memory serves me correctly, to a warrior discussion with Stealth involving certain classes of shields (spiked, *weighted*) that would add more gusto to shield CMANs?
Latrinsorm

I wasn't involved in it, so I don't know. However, it logically follows that if Stealth is cool (and we know that's true), then he will create the necessary code for kewl shield stuff.

Stealth is a douchebag, Draacon walked in, attacked me, and ran away one day (I evaded all 17 of his mstrikes or some shit) I ran around town and stalked him and blew his head off and he pulls me and FORCES me to assist about it, wtf

dewey's pin? didnt some bard who sung to it get stuck in the cell for like 2 weeks? and there were 2 of em too
I've never had any problems with Stealth. He appreciates input in forums and always gives a DL on what is to be expected in terms of his coding for new goodies, he's been cool to me.
Plus he has an absolutely pimp severed elven-head neckcharm that I'd die to have hehe. Also the time he shield-bashed Ardwen over the head was funny. Stealth is cool.

There's an amulet out there called "a mana pendant" or something to that extent. You'd rub it, and 3x per day it'd recharge you to full mana and spirit.

Sorrow is a +18 greatsword, with no crit weighting.

Celtar had a hugeass like 4 page post on all the properties of Sorrow on the official boards a while ago. The blade is sentient and talks to the wielder, gives some oddball spells and other stuff too.
