View Full Version : Rogue training plan up to level 25 for my character.
Ok, so after bugging the crap out of people in General Discussion for 9 or so pages I think I finally have a training plan I like, barring any major oversight (or screw up using the trainer) on my part.

Oh, decided to go without a ranged weapon.
I know the first 5 levels are not going to go as planned - looks like at level 6 I will be able to catch up the training plan.
I only have spells up to 404 planned out, but may go to 405 later.
Some questions:
1st - any major screw ups?
2nd - if I'm correct, it's worth it to never stop training in armor use
3rd - Should I keep training Harness Power past the 12 trains I have (that would give me 44 mana) - don't see myself doing a lot of spell casting - but never know
4th - Will I need more than 15 climb and swim?
5th - Looks like starting at level 26 I'll be able to start adding another training level to some skills (train 2x instead of 1x, or 3x instead of 2x) - any suggestions for skills that look too weak at 25?
6th - Is 1x First Aid worth it for foraging and skinning or should it be higher?
7th - They way my stats are MTP seems to be building up faster than I need it (at least past level 25) any suggestions for using it? Magic Item use or maybe Trade?
8th - I'm sure there will be an 8th and probably more .. later on
Sorry for so many questions in the last 3 days, this is just really the first GS character I've been trying to take the time to create correctly.
Thanks for everyone's patience :)

1. Nothing "major"
2. Pick a set of armor you want to use and get enough points to cover penalties. More ranks are great, but worry about that later. Get enough ranks for brig (30, I believe) and rock that until you can move up into a higher armor class.
3. Unless you plan to cast a lot or are in GoS, you will never need more than 10 or 12 mana, so save yourself the TPs.
4. Climb and swim will vary depending on where you hunt, so figure it out as you go.
5. Extra ranks in PF are always nice (biggest factor in redux), and CM ranks help, as well, depending on which maneuvers you choose.
6. I've never once trained in First Aid, and don't regret it.
7. Arcane Symbols will be critical in disarming scarabs, so keep that in mind. Also, AS and MIU are both immensely useful if you ever plan to use magic items or scrolls.

I agree with all of Palcron's answers for your numbered questions. For 7, though, as a square you're going to be converting MTPs to PTPs. It's just the way the system works, so don't mind it too much.
If I were in your spot, I would get 2x on Combat Maneuvers which will increase your AS and give you more maneuver points to play with. Like the previous poster mentioned, I would also heavily scale back on Harness Power, and drop First Aid entirely. The ideal spot for your HP training will eventually depend on which society you choose and in the case of GoS which sigils you want to keep up. First Aid is an ancillary skill that won't offer you much beyond a few low value skins if you're only investing 1x in it.
If you find yourself with a few extra points in your plan, I would suggest putting them into Physical Fitness. The skill is ridiculous useful since it plays into your hit points, your stamina points, your REDUX, and your Maneuver defense. A few ranks of Trading isn't a bad idea nowadays either, as you will be spending a lot of time negotiating with NPCs to make up for the reduced population and over the course of your character's career the savings will be impressive.

I agree with the previous advice. I would push 30 ranks armor first.
At some point your disarm skill outweighs the need for AS ranks to disarm scarabs, so increase and dial back as necessary. Having 403/404 will be tremendously useful.
All my characters have a few ranks of trading, read up on Krakiipedia about the bonus.
8 ranks of First Aid will let you eat acantha leaf in 3 seconds. Be careful to stay under 0.5x FA + Survival so you don't get awful skinning tasks.
Completely forget about 405!
You haven't mentioned any CMANs yet - have fun with that. :)

Agreed on the agreement with Palcron's answers, though CoL may require more than 10 or 12 mana to keep signs up throughout a hunt. Not sure about that.
This:
The reason for this is the cost of a skill doubles for each multiple, so in the case of say Armor Use, you're spending 15 PTPs at level 0, and 10 PTPs at level 1. If you push that number down to 1 at level 0, you're spending 5 PTPs at level 0, and 5 PTPs at level 1.
is not correct as seen here (http://imgur.com/Qfd8CiQ), here (http://imgur.com/bQd0IAL), and here (http://imgur.com/o2vXhC9). 10/0 at level 0 and 5/0 at level 1 for those armor ranks.
For your first 30 days, I would recommend something like this (http://imgur.com/o3z3RWd). Heavy on physical stats and logic (experience absorption), double CM, delay disarm/pick until it's useful, 8 ranks of armor to get double leather and then stop. Remember you get instant skill migration for the first 30 days so if something isn't to your taste you can fix it immediately. Feeling too brittle? Bump up armor to 2x and get into brig at level 13. Getting impatient for pick/disarm? Drop CM to 1x and get the picking skills to 2x from the start. Having trouble hiding in front of a blind kobold? Move hide to 3x. And if you're really nuts: adjust your skills every time you sell something to max your trading ranks for that sweet, sweet ~5% boost to selling price.
If you do something like this, then make a note on your calendar/set an alarm on your cell phone/paste a sticky on your forehead: switch back to your intended long-term stats/skills before your time runs out on your first 30 days.
Dropped first aid, I was never really thrilled about it anyway, it was just more of a skill I picked to be slightly different than other characters I've created. Was able to use most of the advice here, only able to single train CM but around level 15 I'll be able to start catching it up pretty easily. And I'm only going with 1 or 2 ranks of Harness Power right now since CoL doesn't need it and I dont plan on being a heavy spell caster.
Thanks for the help, finally back and having a great time :)

Starting out as a low level in CoL I aim to have 27 or so mana, the duration of signs is level based so as you gain levels you will need less and can back that out or keep it. With 403/404 you also want around 20 mana or so depending on how often you use them. I shoot for 27 mana because that is 3 times the mana I need to run the AS/DS signs, the general ones as well as the sign for bolt DS. Being a low level it isn't enough to run them forever but you can run them for the duration of a hunt usually. Duration of signs is 1 minute + 10 seconds per level. FA/survival/trading are fun skills to have but depending on your build you may not have the points for them, I know I don't always nor do I want everyone single character of mine to train in them, although I do train them all in trading(Usually 30 ranks for a 10% bonus).
Welcome back and glad to hear you are having a great time.
