Yes I watched much of the debate last night and yes i thought it was better than i thought it would be. Then I got to thinking how low our expectations have dropped to when last nights debate is seen as a good one.
As this campaign goes on I am finding myself becoming more and more disillusioned with the state of politics in general in the United States.
I would say my political bent is generaly slightly to the left of center. I would not say I am a radical in any way but I have voted with the Democratic party the vast majority of the time.
This election I am disapointed in both candidates and both parties.
The Democrats keep making noises about Bush being some evil being who just does not give a damn about the soldiers who died in Iraq and who would sell out the country to anyone and everyone just so Haliburton could have a higher profit margin. I may find Bush to be a bumbling if friendly moron, but i would need some video of him laughing at the fate of the poor soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan before i would be willing to say he just doesn't care.
The Republican spin doctors make me want to vomit with the mantra of "They hate our freedoms, they hate us because we are free". What?? What fool believes that? They hate us because we use our power to impact on politics around the world. They hate us becuase people there spin things just like people here spin things and use the errors of the US to great advantage and make the more easily led believe that by destroying the US somehow their own lives will be better.
Bush also is killing me with the soundbite i keep hearing over and over of how Kerry voted to send the troops into combat yet then did not want to support the troops with the funding necessary. Does ANYONE really believe that Kerry wanted to keep the troops on the ground from getting the support they needed to stay safe? If they do thats just sad.
Both camps love to make claims like that when both know that every darned bill that goes through congress especially any large appropriations bills get riders slapped on like it was the last train out of dodge. Sometimes these are simply an attempt to ride the gravy train, and sometimes they are simply poison pills added to force one side or the other vote against the bill and look like they dont care about police officers/teachers/firefighters/students/retirees/choose yourworthycause, or to vote for something that they would never vote for on its own.
I would love to have the candidates in a REAL debate with REAL people who have a brain and would not let EITHER of them get away with rhetoric or sound bites but actually make them answer the questions.
