View Full Version : Thinking of thrown or ranged weapons for my rogue?

I've never used either so I have no clue how effective they are. Although I really am leaning towards ranged at this time.

From what I've read I do know that ranged can be pretty deadly but haven't had much luck finding anything about thrown weapons. I know with crossbows you get a bonus for kneeling and there is no parry defense unless a rune staff is involved. For thrown ... I don't know anything about them. Is there really anything about thrown weapons that would make them worth using over ranged?

If I do use either it will more than likely be light crossbows or daggers (if that matters for the answers), I realize other weapons could do more damage, but I chose those weapons for RP purposes.

How have other people's experiences been with thrown?

Thanks,

Thrown weapons provide you with more options for weapons to throw, and with higher DFs. Also, you get the flexibility of being able to hurl or swing your weapon, which can be very handy at times. That said, ranged is superbly effective. Just aim at the eyeball. They seem to be easy enough to hit for the many archers who are out there, and hitting the eye = dead critter about 85% of the time. Also good ranged weaponry is going to cost you a lot less than good hurling gear.

I don't think the emphasis on good is made apparent from his post. Good (i.e., basically required to do thrown effectively) thrown gear is going to run you in the 40+ million range. You can be extremely deadly with an off the shelf 4x bow of any variety.

You "get by" without thrown specific gear but...it's a relative pain in the ass you're really better off with the real thing.

Also when I think "thrown" i tend to gravitate more towards lighter weapons, daggers specifically. Gemstone mechanics lean more toward rewarding tossing an 18-wheeler at something.

The thrown review is supposedly in progress to address some of those problems (you can't tell, but I started laughing hysterically out loud when I typed that)
