Why would you want Kenstrom in this position? I love what he's doing, and would prefer he just keep on doing it. He does show some management skills, but since I have no clue what happens behind the curtain, I don't think I'd want to suggest to anyone that Kenstrom be taken out of the role that he's done so well in.

Considering its been like 2 years since I actually saw Sirinna I am not sure there is an actual opening, and I second what Kerl said, Kenstrom rocks where he is. I would support getting a GS player/GM as PM instead of Solomon though!

As the person who started the petition, I'll answer from my perspective:
It's because of the incredible job he's done across a large spectrum of the game and its nuances. I believe in rewarding those who excel and I believe Kenstrom has excelled.
Now a player petition is NOT going to make the final decision for them, by any means, nor do I expect that it will. However, it does give the 'powers that be' an insight into how we feel about Kenstrom and the changes and direction he has taken the small bit of the game he's been given the opportunity to breathe life into.
Dendum's player: I believe, given his desires to do the above, that he would accept a position like this--but again if nothing more look at it as a way to just tell the powers that be 'we approve' of what's been done thus far.
(As a PS I think Wyrom would also be an incredible choice. I am not discounting his hard work or his talent *at all*. I think we are lucky to have many of the talented GMs that we do and I know whoever gets the position will do great things.)

PS-The 'he's doing so great here we shouldn't want him to move up the ladder' perspective made me laugh, admittedly. I'm super glad my work place doesn't operate that way. I'd sure want to throat punch anyone who said "NO PROMOTION FOR YOU--'cause well you're doing a great job where you are!"

I have to agree with Kerl on this. I think Kenstrom is amazing at what he does and while I can't speak for his management style or experience, I am sure he would give it every bit of himself.
That being said, there is a GM who has already proven his management skills, his customer service skills, his love for the game and his ability to not only understand the player base, but react with speed and courtesy to everyone. I think Wyrom would make an amazing APM and from what we've seen of him on the officials for a long time, he's pretty much been acting like one. More than Srinia has for -years-.

What is it? the curse of the competent? curse of the gifted? I've seen both used.
"you're really good at this one thing, lets never give you an opportunity to do anything else ever"
I agree there's a difference in skill sets needed between APM and GM, but "you're really good at this one sorta related thing" is never a good reason in this sort of decision.

He cares about the game. While just caring about something isn't a good enough reason to have more to do with it...like the person who loves animals but has taken in 100 they can't handle and is in fact abusing them through neglect, but their heart is in the right place...I don't see this being that. He's intelligent, creative...AND loves the game as much as any of us. There is nothing I've seen in my relationship with him that would lead me to believe he would be incapable of performing the necessary functions while, at the same time, keeping his finger on the pulse of the community.
Kenstrom is fantastic in the role he currently has and has given zero indication that he would be open to a more demanding work load. Based on his posts, I would imagine that he would in fact not be open to taking the APM position given his RL obligations with family and work.
Nichoel, you seem to be confusing GM'ing with an actual full time job or career. He's a part-time contract worker and you're asking him to accept what is essentially a full time position without adequate benefits.
Personally, I think any petition should be for GS to get a PM, not another APM who answers to Solomon. Wyrom I think is the best candidate for that role currently, but will probably just get put into the terrible APM position and continue to have to report to Solomon.

Bingo. Kenstrom is doing what he loves, and basically doing it for that reason only, and he barely has time to make that work. Honestly, I don't know how he gets as much done as he does. In a year, maybe you think about asking him if he's interested in a change, but you don't move him in the middle of what he's doing now. Promotions are not just about qualifications, and neither is management of people.

So, you're petitioning to replace one of the best Landing GMs ever to get him to a position where he has no time to even interact with player? Seems pretty smart to me.
Add my name to the Wyrom petition, leave Kenstrom where he is doing what he's good at.

Going back to the OP, I think there are a lot of good candidates out of the GM pool right now: Scrimge, Wyrom, and Kenstrom would all make great APMs. I have a hard time backing up any of them individually.
Scrimge is the newest, and least experienced, but he was amazingly supportive of the CHE area, and he did the AMA on Reddit, so he has great ideas, and has quickly established himself in the group. His responsibilities got shifted so he's out of the CHE area, and works with Wyrom on items/merchants/awesome.
Wyrom brought a lot of life into the game with the events, and he was even willing to solicit feedback on the quest systems (which I don't think I've seen Simu do before). While many of the events have been a bit pay-to-win-esque, the increased service offerings have been a great deviation from status quo.
Kenstrom's invasions and plot lines have been amazing, and set Gemstone apart in the MMO world from those visual games. By offering a little more insight into when the events are scheduled (sometimes), he's providing individuals a way to ensure that they're really playing gemstone to its full capacity, and have the ability to participate on the events they want, rather than feeling like they missed something due to lack of awareness.
We have a great set of GMs in the game right now... Honestly, I can't think back to a time where I've been so aware of their presence to know the different GMs by name... or maybe I just never cared enough?

He didn't. If some court decisions hadn't worked out he could have lost control of the franchise and it could have left Texas. It was a dangerous game he played.

Hell, the team sold for the second highest amount ever for a MLB Franchise under his time over it, though he never actually owned controlling interest in it.. The group he got to invest did though. and Nolan Ryan liked him, and if Nolan Ryan liked him he is okay in my book of Nolan Ryan liked people.

Actually, I'm not confusing the two. And given my interactions with him I believe--given the fact that he is already so involved and his opinions on the game in general and the future of the game--that he would be open to the position.
Of course, again, I do not believe that this petition will MAKE the decision. I imagine that it is likely already made--but I saw this as an opportunity to tell the powers that be how the player base feels about the changes/hard work that Kenstrom has made/put into the game in the past 4 years.
Sign it if you'd like! If you don't--hey no hard feelings here! I think that the change will be a good one--if the decision falls with one of the aforementioned GMs who all LOVE this game!

You're confusing the arguments that RSR is making... It's not about how vested in the game he is. It's about how vested he is willing to be given everything else going on in his life. It's the change from a part time to a full time job. Just because he enjoys something, doesn't mean he wants to do it full time.

I'd support Wyrom becoming APM. He's currently an SGM, and that'd be logical. (not sure he wants it, but that's a different issue)
Kenstrom is only an FGM. Promoting him to leap over all the ASGMs/SGMs would seem to me be a bad idea in terms of managing them later.
