View Full Version : INSPECT update

Additional container size categories have been added to the INSPECT verb! There have been some communication issues regarding container capacity, both between players and between players and staff. This is designed to more narrowly pinpoint the capacity of a container in question. The old categories were very small, small, medium, large, and very large. The new scale is:

very small
small
fairly small
somewhat small
slightly small
medium
slightly large
fairly large
large
particularly large
very large
significant
exceptional
huge
incredible
enormous
gigantic

Containers can still range in capacity within those categories, but the spread is no longer quite as wide. This does not affect the actual capacity of any existing containers, but may result in the capacity displaying differently. This update involves the INSPECT verb only. No items have been touched with this update.

The ANALYZE verb has been changed to not message the room when it is used by default. If you still want to use the third-person messaging for roleplaying purposes, you can ANALYZE LOUD {object}.

Alright, who is going to figure out which size equals what weight range?

Huge seems to be the original max deep. Anything over that I can't attest to but it seems that Gigantic as the cap is taken into account for the Epic Deepenings from CTF at 200lbs.
My girdle, belt, used to inspect medium, now as slightly small at max deep.
Max deep pack, was VLA, still VLA. What's that? 140lbs?
Same for Harness at MA. 60lbs?
MD, pin worn LA is still LA. 90 lbs?
MD, pin worn LA #2, still LA.
MD, MA neckpouch, still MA.
MD, VLA shoulder worn, now exceptional - maybe that's 110?
MD, MA, belt worn kit, still MA.
So we can assume that some values of the, as of yesterday, max deep items remains the same.

Anyone else know the holding weights of their items as new adjectives?

180 capacity is enormous
200 is gigantic

Looks like they didn't bother making adjectives for the capacities that are deemed 'broken' I kinda figured with this many adjectives the whole range would be covered.

You remove a black silk bag from your belt.

>l in bag

In the black silk bag you see an ornate imflass jeddart-axe, a scrap of silvery papyrus, a small statue, a beaker of Methais's Home Brew, some matted silvery lint, a ruby amulet, a small statue, a small statue and some essence of water.

>inspect bag

Inspecting that may not be a sound idea.

>scream bag

You scream at the black silk bag in your hand!

>wave bag

With great flair, you pull the bag over your head for a moment...

It seems you have died my friend...

You hear Lorminstra chuckling and she appears in a vision to you. Her placid face is twisted in laughter as she looks deep into your eyes and says, "Not this time, back you go!"

Immediately, the area is filled with a cloud of purple smoke. When it clears, you have slipped into hiding! What a great illusion!

The only change from VLA I've seen on my max deep containers of that size was a cloak that bumped up to significant.

Looks like exceptional is 120 and huge is 140, if I'm remembering my containers' sizes properly.

Not all max-deeps hold the same amount, obvs.

Not too long ago I went through a ton of my containers and tested their capacities on my bard. I didn't include multiples that were in agreement. Here are their capacities with the updated inspect:

very small - 1, 5*
small - 5*, 7
fairly small
somewhat small - 15
slightly small
medium - 20, 22, 25, 26, 30
slightly large - 40, 41, 45
fairly large - 49*, 50
large - 60, 66
particularly large
very large - 85, 90
significant - 100, 112
exceptional - 120
huge - 140
incredible
enormous
gigantic

The entries marked with an asterisk I'm a little uncertain about and I might need to go back and check. On those containers, I used arrows to measure the capacity since they were couple/several item capacity. At first I thought arrows would be great since you can make your own weight but in the process I found out that bundles have a strange behavior with respect to weight: If you bundle the arrows up to a certain weight (say 2lbs) and then successively remove an arrow from the bundle, as long as there are multiple arrows in the bundle, the weight will remain constant (2lbs) until you take the bundle down to 1 arrow. There may be verbs that will update the weight (like how your encumbrance may have a delayed adjustment to new weight unless you check it with ENCUMBRANCE), but holding it in your hand, failing to place it into a container that's too full for the buggy weight, and loresinging won't do it.

add this to your update listing.

130 capacity is inspected as exceptional also.

weird (buggy inspect with cloakworn and backpack) a 100lb capacity backpack is inspected as Very Large, while a 100lb capacity cloak is inspected as Significant.

Fairly small: 10
VLA: 76, 80

Depending on the items, the capacity of a container can vary.

Example:

Small chest from general store inspects as VLA with a 5 item storage limit.

Put the following items into the chest:

Hauberk (27) x 2: 54 lbs.
Twohanded sword (11) x 2: 22 lbs.
Total: 76 lbs (4 items)

Unable to put a fifth item, even a gem, into the chest.

But, was able to place 4 studded leathers (20) 80 lb. total into the chest. Again, unable to add a fifth item.

I was also able to put 1 hauberk (27), 3 double leathers (15 ea) and 1 scimitar (4) in the chest (76 lb total) but couldn't swap out the scimitar with a handaxe (6).

If you have time, could you try: a candlestick, dagger, rope, revolver, wrench and a lead pipe?

Were you also checking the total bardsung weight? I'd just be curious to know if the weights get added strangely but still give a proper end result (this oddity brings gem jars to mind). This doesn't seem to be the case for containers that store any number of items, does it?
