View Full Version : Stunned without an injury?

Bob says it's impossible so here it is:

A cold guardian tries to ensnare you!
AS: +240 vs DS: +212 with AvD: +34 + d100 roll: +80 = +142
... and hits for 9 points of damage!
Decent blow to the head, may leave a bruise.
You are stunned for 1 rounds!

>health
You have some minor cuts and bruises on your left arm, some minor cuts and bruises on your right hand, and minor cuts and bruises on your chest.

Maximum Health Points: 159
Remaining Health Points: 122
You are feeling pretty good.

Maximum Spirit Points: 5
Remaining Spirit Points: 5

Maximum Stamina Points: 65
Remaining Stamina Points: 65

I'm suprised I got stunned on an ensnare period

Ensnare's always been like that.

Dur. When you said "physical attack" I forgot to read it as "creature specific ensnare."

But, to be honest, I didn't know ensnare could do that. I do know that it's impossible on a normal attack. Jonty wins.

Now that that's settled, does anyone have a DF or Crit (or both) table for ensnare? I tried google, but only found an AvD table from 1998, a page on Nigerian witchcraft, and a surprising number of M:TG pages.

Assuming that that crit adds 0 damage, .215 on whatever armor.
Assuming that it adds 3 damage, .143
Assuming that it adds 5 damage, .095

While far from accurate, .215 seems the best answer.

I don't I think ensnare is one of the weakest critter attack types, claw is the middle, pound is the strongest AFAIK

Latrinsorm

That's good thinking, Artha, although conventional wisdom seems to go out the window when you have a rank 1 crit (which it has to be) do 0 damage and no wound. But I certainly can't think of a better idea.

Drew, are you in Brig?

<<although conventional wisdom seems to go out the window when you have a rank 1 crit (which it has to be)>>

Oh? I disagree.

Explain Crit Divisors to me, Bob.

Artha

Robes Leather Scale Chain Plate
3.........5...........7........9.......11

Unless it's an ambush, the crit rank = damage/crit divisor for the armor.

Latrinsorm

...

I know. I was cleverly pointing it out to Bob.

p.s: careful with that 11. I've seen a couple posts on the official boards that question plate's crit divisor.

Drew

Yeah, that was in brig... heavily padded, but I don't think that matters for DF calculations.

<<p.s: careful with that 11. I've seen a couple posts on the official boards that question plate's crit divisor.>>

The people questioning it have never worn plate, obviously.

The person questioning it does wear plate. He knew plate's crit divisor should be 11, but he was seeing minors when taking 9 damage, even though the plate wasn't padded at all.

A GM answered that question a whiel ago and said that it was a bug in our favor because we should be getting 11 damage, not 9 or 10. I, myself, have gotten minors with 9 and 10 damage in plate as well.

Some of the ensare messaging is pretty damn cool. I think I got put in a ~30 point headlock without a minor.

What about lashing?

A lesser ice elemental lashes out at you!
AS: +335 vs DS: +285 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +42 = +122
... and hits for 5 points of damage!
Weak grapple around the neck bruises windpipe.
You are stunned for 1 rounds!

no injury....

Latrinsorm

That's an ensnare crit.

Artha

That's about a .230 DF, if anyone's starting a list or something.

Yeah, that was in brig... heavily padded, but I don't think that matters for DF calculations.

It only matters if it's damage padding.

Do either of you (Drew, Meos) have redux/semidux?

Bobmuhthol
09-28-2004, 02:34 PM
<<semidux>>

No such thing dur.

Drew
09-28-2004, 03:47 PM
No semidux (or just plain "less redux" since Bob wants to be pedantic)

Meos
09-28-2004, 03:54 PM
Meos diffintly doesn't have redux, nor was stone skin on me at the moment.

Latrinsorm

Excellent, thanks.

p.s: I'm assuming you're wearing Full Leather, Meos. Correct?
