View Full Version : Eric Cantor Loses Primary

This is big news. Eric Cantor lost his primary in Virginia. The race was primarily about immigration, with Cantor's opponent accusing him of being too open to immigration reform. What does it mean? It means immigration reform is dead now, at least until 2017.

What is there to reform? Build a 20 foot tall electrified fence with an armed guard every 50 feet with instructions to shoot anything that moves from a south to north direction.
Ugh. This is awful. I may not agree with republicans much but this Tea Party stuff is nuts. I really really hope this is isolated to Virginia.

I love it when Republicans primary their own majority leader.

But what about Canada?

We just need to build a moat along the border and fill it with maple syrup and beer and they'll never make it across the moat.

This was Cantor's position on immigration..
“I’ve always said that there’s a biblical root and a tradition in this country that says we don’t hold children liable for their parents’ acts, and when you have kids who may have been brought here, let’s say, at 2 months old, unbeknownst to them, and they’ve been here all their lives and they want to serve in our military, my position has been I agree with that principle,” the Virginia Republican said, Newsmax reported.
He went on: “They should be allowed to serve in our military and be allowed to become part of this country as a citizen, but not their parents. Not the ones who committed the illegal act. So, this is the difficulty.”

Totally unacceptable. Good riddance, I say.

Our country will not be able to support this much longer. We are already broke and going more broke.
We should build a fence, what's it matter if you are coming here legally? We patrol our ports and airports right? Along our waterways we use radar to track vessels that enter our territory. At the airports we use walls and checkpoints to confirm the ID of people entering our country.
So what do you do along a desert wasteland, where normal means of confirming who enters our nation is difficult? Build a wall and ensure they go through a checkpoint.
We should limit the numbers to no more than 250,000 legal immigrations per year authorized. Green card those wishing to work/go to school here for 5 years, at which point they fill out their legal paperwork if they wish to become a citizen. At the end of that five years, following a citizenship test and 6th grade level English reading/writing test, give them their citizenship.
If they decide to join the military and serve for a minimum of 4 years, their citizenship paperwork is granted to them the minute they ETS from the military.
Being for legal immigration with a set process, does not mean you are against immigration.

the Great Wall of China did a hell of a job
Little thing called technology too.
Roughly 800-1000 miles of southern border. Build a wall. Border tower/post every 10 miles. 2 guard shifts per tower of 4 guards each, day on day off. HQ building/resupply/fuel/food/water every 100 miles. Checkpoint crossings where necessary, dictated by the highway system.
So after building the wall... you would employ... hmm, rough numbers.. lets say 1000 miles, 10 HQ buildings (staff/CO/etc. - 20 personnel per building - 2 shifts of 10 people for QRF and such); for 10x20 = 200 people. Then 90 tower/posts (8 staff per - 2 rotating teams of 4 on 24hr shifts); so... 90x8 = 720.
So to run the posts/HQ building... roughly 920 people required to secure 1000 miles of border.
The legal entry points are already manned/developed, so no changes required there.
***Thinking about it, the outposts would need to be able to call for wagons. So add in at each HQ, another 40 people, so 60 total personnel stationed at the HQ. 2 shifts of 30 people. Day on day off. 10 are Administrative- whatever. Other 20 per shift are 2, 10 man teams with Ambulance, transport, weapons, etc.
With an HQ every 100 miles, a QRF can reach any outpost at a distance of 50 miles or less.

It's cheaper than supporting the number of illegal immigrants that we currently do. ZING!

Then we build steel walls underground that go down 20 feet as well. Sure they could build more tunnels but it will be more difficult. It's a difficulty game.
We build fences they come at us with bolt cutters.
We build better fences they come at us with shovels.
We build underground fences they come at us with sophisticated tunneling equipment.
We build a massive network of spies and informants and satellites and track the movement of each and every single Mexican and they come at us with bribed politicians who say "No no, let's fix this problem by just allowing everyone to come on in whenever they want! We're not a country of laws or anything."
Then they win and the US becomes the United States of Mexico.

Think of it... hmmm... like a condom. It might not stop it all, but it stops most of it.
Build the condom now!

We likely have ways of finding and detecting tunnels too.
A wall is a foolish idea. Money to effect ratio.
Give people a path to make their lives better.

You do realize that in most cases the Mexican government requires more bribes than the cartels do for "legal" immigration?

No. If that really is the problem, then the US should put pressure on the Mexican government to fix that.

They should. Every President since Clinton has been weak about it.
(For clarity Bush 1 did a good job too. It wasn't as much an issue under Reagan/Carter and so on.)

You just proved Obama is a socialist. Thanks Latrin! It was originally intended as an FDR joke, but sure, Obama works too. They both did pull us out of massive recessions caused by Republican administrations immediately preceding them, they both failed to produce long form birth certificates before they were elected, I could go on.
