Polearms

I heard something about some polearms able to be used with a shield (if you have shield training). Is this true?

Some are one handed. If you are a bard with shield and pole-arm training, you are stupid. 'nuff said.

tridents (aka fuscina, zinnor, pitchforks) which are newstyle can be used onehanded, they are pretty equivalent to halberds.

spears (aka angon, boar spear, cateia, falarica, gaesum, gaff, harpoon, pill, partisan, spontoon) suck but can also be used onehanded.

Javelins suck too, I think they might be spears or based on spears.

Pilums are in a class of their own...a class of suckiness that is...even worse than spears, but they swing fast.

Even two handed a trident only has a better DF against something that is in skin or low end leathers.

I can see no reason in using a one handed polearm. If you're going to have a shield out might as well use a morning star or a handaxe. If you're not going to use a shield then get something that's going to hit worth a damn.

bolt defense with shield is good

for some classes, training in polearms is nearly as cheap as edged/blunt

and you can switch to lance/naginata when you aren't fighting stuff that bolts

When I heard that poles offered no bonus to parry defense, I almost thought shield an sword would be better, but I evade a lot of crap anyways, an oddly, parry with the lance too. Now well..I don't know why I ever bothered wit a sword or shield, must say I've fallen in love with the lance.

I still don't see the point in one handed polearms but that's probably because I can't train in shields. Also my last post should be AvD's not DFs... my bad.

I've got a collection of different looking lances, one of which is a warlance. They are cool but most of them just sit in the locker. The two weapons I use are my godendag and my onyx capped vultite lance (which is now 5x as of yesterday w00t).
