The thing that really caught my eye is this headline: Elk killing trial ignites emotions in hippie town
That's kind of an understatement. The cop assassinated the elk while on duty and forged a road kill tag for it. Hopefully he'll do time.
Prosecutors say Carter, fascinated with the elk, stalked it for days and sought to mount its head on a wall as a trophy. They said he shut off the GPS in his squad car when he shot the animal, and failed to radio dispatchers his location. Prosecutors said Carter later forged a tag to pass off the dead animal as road kill. About Big Boy (http://news.yahoo.com/elk-killing-trial-ignites-emotions-hippie-town-193803173.html)
