Tonight, 7PM, on Fox, Avril Lavigne will be singing "Iris" of the Goo Goo Dolls as part of the Fashion Rocks program. I saw a commercial for the show, and she sounds really good. :)

In today's world of corporate rock, at least the girl writes her own lyrics and speaks her mind. She may not be The Sex Pistols but I don't think she ever professed to be punk. I have only heard a few songs of hers but they aren't bad.

And of course the girl is hot.

However, this is more about hearing excellent music on the TV than how great Avril is. I can't speak for the rest of the show, but based on the sound clip I heard I know that Avril's performance is going to be lovely.

Bravo sucks for one reason. Edited for television.

Movies like Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Way of the Gun ... all get butchered due to the censoring.

It's cool that they will play these movies, but I can't sit and watch them.

I'm not an Avril fan, but I'm thrilled my little girls love her. She's not a slut puppy or a skank. She writes and performs her own music and she appears to have at least one foot planted in reality.

Considering her group of peers, I'd say she's awesome.

"The girl who writes her own lyrics" had 2 albums worth of music written for her when L.A Reid signed her originally, but felt it was too "adult" and decided "punk" was what she wanted to do. Her bandmates didnt know her before they were a band for the most part, shes totally, totally, fake. Hot, yes, but talented, original [Alanis Jr., anyone?], she is definitely not.

I don't pretend to be an expert on Avril, she still writes a fair amount of her music. If she rejects music written for her and decides to write her own for whatever reason that is a plus in my book. I still put her way ahead of the britney, jessica, hillary duff crowd.

I have a few friends at City TV in Toronto who have met Avril who say she is pretty down to earth so I am not sure I can agree with you on the fake thing.

As far as being another Alanis, when Alanis started in the music business, her songs were written for her and she danced in her videos. She sang primarily pop tunes then. Certainly she is her own artist now however I find her annoying girl has a charmed life and she can't stop complaining. Alanis has written a ton of songs about ex-boyfriends. It seems that anyone unlucky enough to date the emotional train wreck known as Alanis is going to have Alanis sing about it at some point. So i for one am glad that Avril isn't another Alanis.

But the truth is I have too much time on my hands on this lazy Sunday and don't really care too much one way or another

First album: mostly no.
Second album: mostly yes.

Avril's band: Evan Taubenfield, her guitarist and the guy who composed a bunch of the music, is leaving the band on account of stupid-itis (ok, ok, he's got good reasons for leaving, but the guy they're replacing him with is a total lu0zar). This leaves the drummer (Matt Brann or something) as the only guy who's been playing in the band since Let Go.

Avril being fake: de ninguna manera. Did she say some dumb things when she was 17, yes. Here's why that doesn't bother me: she was 17.

Heh ... they edited out the beginning scene and much of the sperm bank scene as well.

I can deal with the voice overs, but losing whole scenes and cutting out huge chunks of scenes, well it's just not worth watching after that.

The movie opened up with the car driving into the city and the younger guy explaining how much money it takes to survive and where to get it ... blood/sperm.

I was le sad.
