Yeah dude, I almost went for a gold mazda... but it was a stick, and it was just too big for me. Blue's a good color; if I get smashed in this one I know it isn't the color for me. Plus, PB drives a Mazda... I wouldn't want to seem republican...

Oooh! That's pretty, Beth! Hopefully, you got enough from the insurance company to make it equal to the good buy you got before. :)

HarmNone, glad you've got wheels again

He's Polack I think... stupid Polacks...

Anyway I got a fricking deal on this car because I made the guy feel reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally bad for me and he took two grand off the price.

One can hope, but I doubt that'll happen; it doesn't matter, 'cause I'm going to sue the ass off the dumb Polack.

Good for you, hon. It sounds like, in this case, you have every reason to do so.

I felt guilty thinking it at first, but what choice do I have? The insurance company isn't giving me enough to cover tax/title/license and all that... :(

I don't think you should feel badly for suing this idiot. Some suits are ridiculous, being based on absolutely nothing. In this case, however, the idiot was using his car as the equivalent to a deadly weapon in the hands of a moron. I think he might benefit, in the long run, from finding out that doing that can cost him bigtime. ;)

Beth:

Please buy American made cars or at least a Honda if you're going to go foreign. Now Saturns are bad cars, but they're driveable plexiglass encasements anyway. But I'd rather ride a bike tha drive a hyundai. Those cars are made with cheap parts and breakdown very easily. A friend of mine bought one new and had it back in the shop 6 times in her first year.

Just advice, feel free to cuss me and say lewd things now.

I wasn't trolling, I was giving you advice concerning your new car. I just don't want to see you get stuck with 6 repair bills like my friend did. I haven't cussed or said a negative comment about you yet. And you've said the word fuck about fifty times.

You cannot act like a complete jackass 99% of the time and then pull a thread of human compassion out of your ass the other 1% of the time and expect to be taken seriously.

You cannot troll for trouble and then hide behind policy when it catches up to you.

You cannot provoke others and then whine like a sloppy little bitch when you get the proverbial ass kicking you deserve.

SINCERELY,
BETH.

Let's just make this 100% crystal clear right now, OK? I thought I had done t his before but apparently you are far too dense to actually understand.

I do not care what you think, I do not want your opinion, I think you are a complete idiot, and I'd really appreciate it if you didn't respond to anything I say, or any thread I post in.

That said in a fairly civil manner, I hope you end up in a pool of your own filth.

When it comes to used cars I would consult the lemon aid guide. You can probably get one at the library for free.

http://www.lemonaidcars.com/

Now that said you probably can't go wrong with a Toyota or a Honda

and get any used car you want to buy inspected by a mechanic you trust first.

Hyundais are fairly nice cars. The 2000 - 2002 models had some slight problems with the injectors fouling, IIRC, so watch that. Though they might have allready had new ones put on.

If you want the best car, IMNSHO, go with a Subaru. Best vehicles I've ever driven, bar none.

-The Voice in Alahnna's Head has driven a lot of vehicles and worked as service manager at a VW/Chrysler/Subaru dealership for awhile.

PS: Psykos, you're an idiot. American cars are the biggest pieces of crap this side of a Yugo.

Hyundai's got a bad rep because of reliability issues YEARS ago. These days they are backed by a 5 year/60k mile basic warranty, 10 year/100k mile powertrain, and 5 year roadside assistance.

Edmunds.com:

2001 Elantra GLS = 8.2/10 (Resale Cost ~ 6k - 7k)
2001 Honda Civic = 7.9/10 (Resale Cost ~ 9k - 14k)

So not only would a civic be out of her price range - it's also got a worse consumer rating.

Hyundai ties Honda as second highest reliability brand. (http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-03-11-cr-picks_x.htm)

Toyota being first, Subaru being 3rd.

A friend of mine had over 260,000 miles on his Hyundai Excel before he sold it to a high school kid.

Yeah, quit trying to derail threads by posting on topic in a serious, non-instigative manner.

If that post counts as an attempt to derail the thread, you might as well go back to your old posting style. At least those are amusing.

Also, telling people what kind of car they should buy, in a thread about the car they just bought, is kinda dumb.

The thing is, when you start out by being a complete wanker and pissing people off for the sole purpose of pissing people off, folks are gonna get a little bit resentful of you.

If you say, hey I'm fed up of all this animosity, I'm sorry, you cant expect people just to say oh, well hey...welcome to the PC boards and fall over themselves trying to be nice to you.

Saying sorry doesnt mean that it didnt happen.

If you fuck up, you need to work your back-end off to show you are sorry. Not just say it.

In my opinion, the word sorry is over-used and under-meant. You wanna say sorry...show it, dont say it. And dont expect an easy ride while you are saying it, because I'm pretty sure there are about 30 or so posts from you to me on these boards where you have called me an ignorant foreign bitch.

One post saying sorry doesnt undo all of that.

On topic: I still like your car Beth :)

No, but a recently implemented policy on thread derailment does.

I don't like Hyundai anything simply because of the reliability and flimsy feel to the overall build of the car.

The first time I sat in a Hyundai it felt like sitting in a Ford Festiva. It just feels ... thin. Know what I mean?

For the price though, you got what you needed. Just keep it maintained and don't take any shit when it comes to warranty work. Manufacturers with long life warranties sound nice, getting a service dept to honor the warranty is another issue all together. Hyundai comes in near the button on that bench mark. For the price I'm thinking you may have had better luck with a Kia. I finally drove a friend's Kia last week and it felt like a better build to me.

I also wouldn't be quick to call a domestic brand passenger vehicle the worse however. There are more than a few imports that claim that prize. Domestic to me equates to project in 5 years. That is my mindset anyway.

Ugh. If there were one brand of car I would stay far away from - it would be Kia.

2001 consumer ratings (again from Edmunds.com):

Optima (their top of the line) - 8.0/10
Rio - 6.7/10
Sephia - 6.9/10
Spectra - 6.6/10
Sportage - 6.3/10

I mentioned Kia and Hyundai by driving experience and word of mouth pertaining to warranty experience.

I'm a Hyundai fan. I've a 2001 Accent that I've owned for a little over three years, and the only 'major' repair I've had to do to it was having the front brake pads replaced.

Routine maintenance + not being an idiot = long-lasting car.

Yeah. I’ve had a Mazda6s for almost two years now. It rocks. Stealthy metallic charcoal grey. I am giving her up though. :crie: Moving into DC/NoVa area and she’d get torn up by the fucked up streets.

PS. Glad to hear you found something Beth. But then, even the hardest of times, you’ve come through ahead. Knew you would.

Congrats!
