The other day I was talking to someone I just met, so I Look at them to see who I'm talking to. Well, I won't paste here, but let's just say she had an outfit on that made me want to run to another room and laugh my ass off. Anyway, I told another friend about it and her comment was, well it's not like you HAVE to look at people. Don't complain about what they wear when you choose to see them.

Now, this makes NO sense to me. RP wise, I like to know, am I talking to a dark elf, a halfling, a Sylvan, an Aelotoi..... etc..... and clothing can also hint at personality. Plus, realistically, we should SEE the people we are talking to.

So my question is.... how do YOU feel about checking out a char?

I voted for the top one although I dont do it all the time, but I do look at someone most times if I am talking to them.

Depending on whats going on will say whether or not I look at the clothes, if it is a busy place, it's hard to read everything quickly.

If they have loads and loads of clothing and pins and stuff, I just dont bother trying

I always look at race and gender because they directly affect how my racist character will act towards you.. clothes, not so much. I just don't have the patience most of the time.

Pretty much the same here. I just feel, people should wear what suits their char. If your char would wear 100 pins, thats fine but expect to get a few jokes thrown your way. No matter what you wear, people are going to look and come to some conclusion. Right or wrong.

Do I care what people think of my clothes? Yes and no. I would like for people to see the items I've worked on and have fun wearing. But if they hate it that doesn't bother me.

Looking at people is interesting though. The multitude of items and outfits is amazing :)

I like looking at other characters.. gives me not only an idea of who they are but what they are all about.. I also like to see what they are wearing.. if you happen to be wearing the same item.. well there's an easy icebreaker if you want to talk to them..

Exactly my point of view. Falgrin will look at folks to make sure he's not stealing from a rogue.. Sithral will look at people to make sure of their race.

One reason for me to always look, is to not call them sir when they are a woman, stuff like that.

I don't always look, but if I like them or find them interesting I will. I keep captures of people who have good taste for future alteration inspiration.

I look at most people I interact with. When I was stealing, I'd look at everybody with a title on to see their profession, whether or not they did archery and where their containers were. I ran across a lot of ugly alters that way.

Casual conversation: I'll usually look to see race, gender, and size of inventory.

More involved conversation: Always look, try to read inventory.

My main character was a healer and I started her back when healing protocol was to look at every person you encountered and heal them if they needed it. So I looked at everybody to see if they were wounded or not. The choices were look or diagnose, and the thought of walking up to everybody I met and giving them a complete physical was too much.

I only had Tilone my first year of playing, so looking got to be a habit. I did it with all my chars forever after because I could never not look at folks, though I quit spot healing them when that practice went out of fashion.

Michiko looooves looking at people's outfits, particularly if she knows them as a person who dresses well. I tend to skip over people who have paragraphs of stuff, though. Less is more! :D

Arkans will always look simply because his RP dictates him to treat different races differently.

I always love looking at people. I can usually get a good idea of profession and style by such. It's a habit. I am always typing LOOK when I'm in a room.

Well I guess the "I looks" have it.

Or should we do electorals? ;)

I tend to follow the same pattern, I look so I know who/what I am talking to. I just cant stand it when someone has 55692784218 pins, its so painfully unrealistic. I just dont get the fascination with fluff irrelevant to your profession, race, and gender.

<suprised the Fashion Diva Jesae hasn't commented yet>

I look at a person - mainly to get some kind of estimate of their age and to see their race/profession.

Race is probably the factor I look at most - which will determine how I treat the person. Giants > Most Races > Fae Dirt Elves > Dhe'nar Dirt Elves

WELL...

Hehe, no. I love to look at people so long as they don't have a whole screen full of stuff. Even if its good-looking stuff I just like trying to read that much crap.

If they do look nice I'll try to jot down ideas I could take from their works assuming it isn't an exact replica. Certain words and colors will catch my attention that I'd like to use myself.

Is clothing important? I think it is. It gives you hints on a person's profession, if they're rich, or if Nalina would be better of slitting their throats than diving into their pockets.

Sorry for the delayed response, as I was unable to get online most of this weekend. :D

I will look at any and everyone with whom I choose to interact. Race and culture are crutial aspects to any situation I may have with other player(s). If I need to get a better feel for how well the character roleplays their selected race or culture, I will examine their tattoos and clothing to look for clues.

Fashion is of little concern to me.

I WANT TO SEE NO PLETHORA, ARGENTATE, NOR FESTOON IN ANY OF YOUR ALTERS, YOUNG LADY.

I don't usually look at people unless I have to, or when I'm talking to them. If I'm sitting at a node and bored out of my mind and I see people conversing about something interesting, or something stupid, I type look stupid character.

I try and look at just about everyone. No real reason just like to get a visual of who is around me.

I look at race, profession and clothing. Especially for those that have questionable names or those that act like complete jerk-off's. Clothing is cool to look at if I have the time while resting..

I definately enjoy looking at other people's outfits.

I'm of the opinion that your outfit says a lot about your character.

I always look, because Faiyth likes to know who she's talking to, and then act accordingly. Though everyone pretty well gets the same response from her, I feel it helps me envision their facial expressions and what they look like to look at their clothing and facial features.

With my human bard I look at everyone as well, because some people don't fit into her "equal to me" mind frame, so she would act less kindly to them then to say, someone who was a human and dresses well.

Having started playing back in the AOL days I think I learned to always look because back then people really didn't have so many alterations. It told you someone was A) Rich B) Well Off... or C) Not a new character. It's stuck with me forever.

I like to look at people as well. If I get bored while waiting for an Alterer I will look at everyone and see stuff. Its nice to see some people are really good at dressing well and then there are people like me. I feel bad for anyone who chooses to look at my main character. Really bad in fact, she is completely tacky.

Hehe. I think its funny when I have friends who dress one char to the nines and have another that belongs in fashion rehab.
