Hey,

I recently returned to the game after 15 or so years away. Obviously a lot has changed. Although I think I have got to grips with most things I have a query regarding shield use.

Firstly my 7x shield is described as a: Fash'lo'nae crested tower shield (yes I know its a cleric shield). However when I inspect the shield it says it is a "medium shield".

My questions are:

1) Is it normal to have a description which disagrees with the inspection? Should I ask a GM to fix it or something? Or are they going to shrug their shoulders and say this isn't a problem?
2) To be most effective with the current shield I have, I assume I need to train in SHIELD MFOCUS rather than TFOCUS given the inspection it has?
3) I have single trained in dodge up to level 50 so assuming I go down the MFOCUS route is it worth getting SWIFTNESS too?
4) Are medium shields significantly worse for warriors than large / tower shields? Should I be focusing on replacing my shield with a tower shield?
5) Unrelated but is there anyway I can remove the Fash'lo'nae crest from my shield or get a new crest? I don't like the description and would love to change it but can't afford alteration etc.

Thanks in advance for the help and constructive advice!

1. This happens with older shields. You may, if you wish, put the shield into the glowing bowl or whatever it is in the armorer's shop which will change it to a tower shield mechanically. This is called converting it.
2. Yes, as long as you don't convert it in the armorer's shop.
3 & 4 I don't know, sorry.
5. Alterations are very cheap (and sometimes free) and easy to come by these days. I'd recommend waiting for one, or if you are desperate you might be able to apply a dye from the Rainbow Tent in Landing, which may do the trick.

the shield looks to be 15/15/15 so the dyer should work (there is one in every town), but other factors may prohibit it.

If you have a lot of shield use, get a big shield or convert yours. If you don't have much shield use, either git rid of what you have and stick the points into dodge (if you're using two handers, poles or twc) or learn more shield use and get a big shield! Medium shields aren't significantly worse, but you might as well maximize what you can in terms of defense. You don't notice the DS changes much, as they're rather small, but you'll get a lot more blocks with a tower, and your ranged defense will be redonkulously good if you 3x train in shield use.

Thank you all for the advice, very, very useful.

I decided to convert the shield as I felt some of the skills available for tower shields were the most useful for me (PROP, BULWARK etc.). My shield training at the moment is roughly 2.5x so hopefully this will help a lot.

FYI - I tried the dyer and it didn't work unfortunately, I think it may be due to the crest but not 100% sure.

Thanks again!

My warrior uses a x5 emerald wall shield that is a medium shield. I doubt I can convert it to a large shield. Anyhow, that's a nice shield and congrats on the conversion.

You should be able to convert it.

It wouldn't hurt to check your shield, there is a confirmation message when you try.
