View Full Version : Are The Shootings Because of Drugs?

This would not surprise me. We've seen that for a small segment of the population anti-depressants can increase their likelihood of suicide. I can't vouch for the source. Anyone else know about this?
The overwhelming evidence suggests the single largest common factor in all of these incidents is that all of the perpetrators were either actively taking powerful psychotropic drugs or had been at some point in the immediate past before they committed their crimes.

It is, to me at least, way more complex than any one single factor. I'm sure we could find other common factors and it could be that all of those common factors create a cause or it could be none of them directly, or indirectly, feed into it. The single largest common factor is every single shooter was a human. We haven't gotten the whole "being human" thing figured out yet.

This is pretty much what I was going to say. It's not because of any one single factor, I'd say.
If I were going to describe the cause, I would say that it's because of an overall decline in humanity's moral values (which includes a crap ton of different things!).

It's partially the drugs. The latest study has shown that basically, anxiety and depression meds are working very, very well. So well, in fact, that if you harbor some evil thoughts, homicidal or suicidal ideation, and you decide to do something stupid, well the drugs are suppressing that little anxiety producing, sometimes morality-based, voice that says, "hey dude, this is a bad idea." The concept is that the anti-anxiety drugs are shutting down the second thoughts you have about doing something horrible. So it's not the sole cause, but it's not helping in the case of active shooter and suicide scenarios. Something other than boatloads of pills is needed.
