The question I have is this: Would I get the same mechanical advantage with only 1 rank in Brawling while singling in Shield Use (Cleric) opposed to fully singling in brawling in a Shield/Brawling build?

No. I think its .2 or something DS per rank.

So you would see more DS and if you don't see a mechanical advantage for open handed casting then you should probably put some kind of brawling weapon in your hand to get the outright parry.

So basically, at 81 ranks I'm seeing about 18/55 (Off/Guarded) Parry DS from brawling with open handed casting bonus vs. virtually nothing without the extra 80 ranks. I think I'll keep the ranks.
