A slender kelyn-tipped pike with a polished white oak shaft
8x
max light (7 or 8 pounds)
poleaxe flaring
blessable
SOLD for 24m and delivered to willturn
This will go sold 3 days after the last bid (once, twice, sold), though I will speed that up if I get the impression it's wrapping up. Feel free to send a buyout offer.
This weapon was originally a DMC prize (2013 holiday run). I bought the poleaxe flares for it from a CCF attendee. Poleaxe flares do not occupy the traditional flare slot; they are a combat script. As such, you could still get weighting added to this, or even another flare, if a merchant allowed it. Another consequence is it's still blessable (until you get that extra merchant work). Fun weapon, but I picked up another pike I like a little more, so it's on the market.
The flares seem to be all crushing crits, and appear to flare about as often as normal flares - about 1 time in 11 in my tests, but then about 1/3 of the shots I take are fatal, and flares don't trigger on killing blows, so probably more like 1 time in 7 eligible hits. When the flare goes off, it has a chance to trigger a second action, which trips the target (makes it prone without doing any more damage). That second flare is based on MoC ranks. I only have one MoC rank, and I almost always wait to swing until the target is already on the ground, so I haven't ever noticed it go off in my own use.
These flares trigger against corp undead, not non-corp, according to this quote by Wyrom: "They now will try to look a little harder to weed out non-corp undead, instead of just not working on most undead. So if you hunt undead with them, you may see an uptick in them flaring."(http://www.tinyheroes.com/forums/GemStone%20IV/Game%20Design%20Discussions/Items%20and%20Inventory/thread/1610415)
There are a few non-functional verbs on the weapon as well:
toss: You toss the pike in the air, whirl it overhead, then deftly stuff it into the cloak.
raise: You raise your pike into the sky and cry out for vengence!
A post at http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?33345-Polearm-Rebalancing-Flares had more to say about these flares, but it's just hearsay, so it's up to you how much you want to trust it (and it says the flares show up a little more than I estimated from brief testing):
The chance to activate the feinting flare is 20%. MOC does not influence the flare, it flares like a normal flare.
If you have 50 ranks of MOC and the flare activates, you have a 33% chance of also doing the tripping maneuver.
If you have 100 ranks of MOC and the flare activates, you have a 66% chance of also doing the tripping maneuver.
Whirlin posted a sample of a poleaxe flare going off within a series of 5 on-hit effects at http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?87035-Polearm-w-quot-rebalance-quot-flares: This clip is not from the weapon I'm selling
You thrust with a fist-capped Vaalorian sarissa at a Grimswarm troll acolyte!
AS: +402 vs DS: +377 with AvD: +39 + d100 roll: +55 = +119
... and hit for 26 points of damage!
Torn muscle in the troll acolyte's right leg!
** Necrotic energy from your Vaalorian sarissa overflows into you! **
You feel energized!
You feint back, then crack the troll acolyte with a hard shot! Suddenly, you reverse direction, and strike the troll acolyte again with the butt of your Vaalorian sarissa!
... 20 points of damage!
Mighty blow cracks several ribs.
You reverse your sarissa again, and sweep the troll acolyte off his feet!
** Your Vaalorian sarissa flares with a burst of flame! **
... 20 points of damage!
Burst of flames to chest toasts skin nicely.
The troll acolyte howls in agony as the flames dance over his body!
... 20 points of damage!
Burst of flames to back toasts skin nicely.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
Death crits are possible:
You feint to one side, then crack the Taladorian legionnaire with a hard shot! Suddenly, you reverse direction, and strike the Taladorian legionnaire again with the butt of your smoky glaes pike!
... 25 points of damage!
Solid strike caves the Taladorian legionnaire's skull in, resulting in instant death!
The Taladorian legionnaire falls to the ground and dies.
