View Full Version : Connecting to GS problems - damn firewalls!

Alright, so I got a C in Networks, and I think the main reason is because my prof didn't want to see me for another semester, which is what would of happened had I failed the course. Therefore, I know much less about this than I should.

So, I'm working in this NGO here in Namibia. No one here seems to know anything about computers. But, when I try to connect to GS, I can't DL the Wizard FE (No connection to the server could be established) and I can't connect to eScape "Server Connection Lost". The status page claims that GS has been up for the past two days, so what's the deal?

I'm thinking it has to be a firewall, but no one here seems to know anything about a firewall, and if it's there, it's not maintained by anyone, or monitored. They don't even have monitoring software on their computers. Anyone have suggestions on my connectivity woes?

I think it's because you're in Namibia.

Hmmmmmmmmm, can't tracert or ping www.play.net either. Which is weird, since I can connect to the website. Grrr.

Play.net cannot be pinged.

Try pinging ping.simutronics.com or ping.play.net instead.

Those are timing out as well.

Odd that the ping doesn't work. I was going to suggest that it's a firewall/port blocking issue, but if there's no ping return on ping.play.net then that's probably not your current issue (but might be an issue when you can actually ping)

Those traceroutes and pings are normal. Most likely Simu is blocking ICMP on their firewalls which would explain why everything times out.
