I'm looking for advice on stat placement for a pure Ranger Sniper. I'd like to fire a bow from the shadows with support from my spells but very little, if any, actual combat spells used. Any advice is welcome. Training suggestions also welcome. I apologize if there is a post about this somewhere already, but I am terrible at sorting through all this information. Thanks!

All I know about ranged combat is that I know nothing about ranged combat.
Have you checked out The Art of the Bow (http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?49785-quot-The-Art-of-the-Bow-quot-GSIV-Archery-Guide) guide yet?

^that is a very good guide. If you're just starting out, you might want to place your stats for hunting effectiveness rather than growth for the first 30 days. Afterwards you can switch to something more long term. Rangers have a large number of spells you'll want to get as soon as possible - 601/611, 606, 608, 613, 617. What race are you planning to be?

Stat placement is IMO unique for the Ranged Ranger. You're going to want to have high STR because it impacts RT. You'll be aiming from hiding so that adds 2s to RT which is why you want to negate that with STR, enhancives and spells. Dex is big because it adds directly to AS.
I was 2x brawl and 2x ranged all the way from lvl 0 up. This was before UAC had come out. Anyway I found that ranged for a young ranger is really hard. I had a DE. Maybe a gnome or halfling would have something different to say. The reason I'm saying this is because you might want to grab a claid and just power hunt for 30 days then switch to ranged.
Scripts and macros are everything for this style. Arrows are a pain in the ass. Ask TG to write you some scripts in the "Bored, who wants me to write a script" thread.
