Have a new Pure Archer in Voln, having some trouble keeping enough favor for buffs...

What symbols do Volners like to hunt with? How do you maintain favor? I'm running out faster than I gain it...

Honestly, I don't really use my symbols often (outside of voln fog)
BUT... if you do... using symbol of courage doesn't use -that- much favor. Its supremacy that kills it.

Level 16, rank 17 reporting in! I alternate frying in my primary hunting ground with bounties. I bless my own weapons, and keep courage and protection up. No problems.

I didn't use any symbols while working my way up to master.

Once I became master, I still didn't use my symbols because I didn't feel they were necessary and I didn't want to "waste" favor. COL and Sunfist let you use symbols guilt-free, so I prefer those societies.

For me the progression was: Protection to Protection + Courage to Protection + Courage + Supremacy. I'd still lay off supremacy if I didn't need it because of the favor costs. I also found that I timed my hunts based on when the symbols ran out. I might quit the hunt early instead of using another symbol or, if I was with Undead, hunt a little longer and make sure that I was maxxing out the symbols.

Symbol of recall was important for me because it was a good trade off between favor for mana. As a young pure it may be good for you too. It's so sweet to see all of your spells buff back up and know that you don't have to sit on a node for 20 minutes while you spell up. Transcendence is expensive but it's literally a life saver. I forgot to use it a lot but it would have saved a ton of time getting raised if I had it macro'ed.

The symbols are great. I was really happy with the changes they made to Voln.

You didn't specify the character's level or voln rank. Here is an example of favor gained and symbol use cost for a level 10 character, voln rank 10, hunting level 10 undead.

Favor gained formula: round up((character level/15) * creature level) = Favor

For this example: round up(10/15) * 10 = 7 favor per creature

Note: SLK = same level kill. In this example an SLK is one (level 10) undead.

This character would need 9 SLKs just to replace the favor used to run courage and protection during a typical 10 minute hunt. It's a different story at higher levels and master status. A capped character gains 667 favor per SLK and the activation favor cost for each use of courage/protection is 218. A level 100 voln master can run both symbols for nearly 9 minutes with just 1 SLK.

Recently ran a character through voln. Started at level 6, finished at level 19, used the buff symbols every single hunt (once I had them) with no issue, purely hunting undead.

Symbols of Courage and Protection while hunting, always.

Symbol of Supremacy when you want some added firepower against undead.

Symbol of Transcendence when you are stunned / webbed / prone. It's such a powerful lifesaver. As someone who has 3 Sunfist masters, this power beats all Sunfist powers. Big "wow" here. Don't forget it.

Symbol of Recall when you die.

Symbol of Restoration for HP.

Symbol of Mana when I want to keep a hunt running longer (my Voln guy is a wizard).

Nothing else, really.

Favor: focus on running bounties in some undead-only areas for your level. The Citadel is a great one. Otherwise, favor hunting is easy. Go somewhere undead, kill undead until you can't move anymore, rest, repeat. You can easily build up a reservoir of hundreds of spins.
