Normally I'll respond to any reported posts or PMs on the weekend but this weekend was filled with lying to someone that it was going to be ok when I knew they were dying and then not having power or the ability to leave my house for about 7 hours on Sunday. Sorry for the delayed response (not to you Tisket you didn't report or PM FOR SHAME!).

Sorry man.

No one I knew. I was out in the workshop and heard a crash, guy clipped someone from behind pushed them off the road and they wrapped around a telephone pole. I was first responder got 911 on the line in under 30 seconds of the first impact. Passenger I knew wasn't going to make it, driver I wasn't sure. Couldn't do much because they had live power lines down on them. I just had to talk to them and keep them calm as possible but I couldn't get close to provide real aid. When I looked at the passenger's injuries and when I looked in his eyes I knew he was on his way out but I had to pretend it was going to be ok in order to keep the driver calm, she was 9 months pregnant and they were on their way to the hospital for a scheduled labor later that night...

They life lined her out and the baby survived thanks to an emergency c-section but she'll never know her dad.

Well... that's one way to make us feel like we're complaining about first world problems while you deal with real shit.

You definitely did everything right, and the universe is a better place for your efforts.

I don't think anyone has the right to blame you for not being around this weekend, and I really don't think this thread has ever once stated anything that hasn't been incredibly positive about your responsiveness to members' needs. However, the situation points out the potential for more important stuff to come up at a moment's notice, and further validates the need for a backup admin in the event of a well-justified absence.

I never blame AR for anything (I like my title the way it is), but he is one person with a full life who shouldn't bear full responsibility for everything in the world, including this forum.

I'm glad he was there for those poor people though.

This isn't really tough for one person to do, just PM me or report if there's an issue and it takes seconds to correct from my phone. I just don't actively sit in front of a PC on the weekends, that's outside with my kids time!

The problem is I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Once you do the admin role a lot of the fun goes away. Had it not been for the community as a whole being something that I really kind of "believe in" (is that a thing with an online forum of people I've only met a handful of in real life?) I'd probably have just faded away after about 6months of doing it. My biggest fear is getting someone else on board that ends up leaving, because I don't like seeing people leave, or someone who takes on the role and can't bounce between being a poster and being an admin and back again. It's really damn hard some times to not let one role bleed over into the other, especially when dealing with reported issues, problems, problem children, etc.

I've had conversations with some of you guys when pushed as to why I don't ban someone or why I don't delete certain things and my response is always the same. I have to act on facts and be true to the overall idea of the forum, I can't let any personal feelings of like, dislike, arguments, or what have you get in the way of moderating the boards in such a way as to keep the playing field level.

As a community the need for moderation is very light. You guys play by the rules and you all act with common sense. It's the rare lonely douche that pops his head in once and awhile until he realizes there's no attention for him here and the rare bot that I have to clean as normal maintenance and again, all of it can be done from my phone so as long as I've got cell service and as long as you guys just report/PM me it's handled.

I can look to find some additional bodies but ultimately it's not up to me and besides I'm kind of scared for anyone that would want the job.

Tisket

If anyone wants the job it's probably because they want a look at who sends the unsigned rep.

What about a separate administrator account that's not used for posting? Kind of like a GS player who's also a GM. Or a Help Desk specialist that uses a separate admin account to log into computers to fix them.
