Yea from what I understand Landmark is not the full on game that EQ:N is suppose to be....
oh well I will give it some space on my HD, at least get a feel for how well it runs on my system. I have high hopes for EQ:N if they can avoid going all SWG NGE on it while it is still being developed. Sony has a lot of MMO's now they can afford the make one a sandbox.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high for EQ:N because of the general state of the online RPG market... I'm not sure what to think of Landmark yet though.

EQ:N and Archeage are the only big budget games in the near future that seem to hold out any promise for any sort of sandpark-ish gameplay (and Star Citizen I guess). Smedley a couple of months back wrote up a mea culpa regarding the NGE saying that it was wrong and is completely at odds with their current game development direction which is encouraging.

Well I jumped in for a bit, going to have to read up on it I think because I didn't even know how to make a flag to claim land.
I liked the graphics and it ran smooth on my computer, especially for a early stage Beta product. Will see how it pans out, there was a lot of flak for the direction they took with the graphics last year but...it looks good to me.
edit: I find the lack of gnomes disturbing.

Haven't been able to play myself. Still waiting for beta key.
On a side note tho... I am getting tired of MMO's lately. A lot of games have been going the "You can do anything and all things" route, because they don't want their people to feel limited.
I know it's a fantasy game and all, but what sense does it make for someone to b a master blacksmith AND a master Armorer, AND a adventurer that is a knight and proficient in all forms of melee weapons? I could see a knight being an apprentice, maybe even a journeyman armorer, but a Master? It took years to just make it to journeyman.
I don't know, maybe it's because actually enjoy playing a crafting/gathering class, and it just seems to cheapen it when everyone can do it as a side thing for their main class. Lately in MMO's it seems everyone masters as many crafting classes as they are allowed (FF14 being all of them) which then basically means there is no need to be one really.
Then again.. maybe it's just me.

I'll see if I can dig up a beta key, not sure if I have any left or not or if other people I know with them may have spares

It looks a bit like EQ themed Minecraft. I'm not in the beta but that's the impression I get.

I didn't like that fact of dark fall unholy wars, well I didn't like a hell of a lot in DF unholy wars but that made me not even want to bother with the crafting, which is something I like to do in Eve.

I want to be in Landmark, but I also understand it's just kind of a big playground for building things you can potentially later sell on the EQ:N player forge, and may potentially be put in the game by the devs.

The blueprint they have includes adding health and creatures to the landmark side of things, I don't know why exactly as I thought that would be just EQ:N but...whatever, maybe EQ:n is so far off they figure they might as well get something going in Landmark till then.

Well, my understanding is that they want EQ:N to have lots of player generated content. Best way to do that? Give them the tools to generate the content years before the game actually comes out. :P

Yeah the plan is there to be some form of adventuring in Landmark, though I think limited to just 1 basic "adventurer" type class. And the rewards would mostly be for unique building/crafting supplies.
I hope that they limit crafting in EQ:N as well, it sucks when everyone can be either every crafting class or every master armorer (for example) is exactly alike. You should be forced to concentrate on narrowing paths like say focus on shields only to make the best ones and another armorer that focuses on leather armor can't make your shields and vice versa.

Ouch, I missed that. Where did you learn that Ardwen? Though Landmark looks interesting I really don't have a lot of interest in it. My interest is more in the mmo-rpg when it comes out.

Ah ok gotcha. That really sucks, this industry is just so unstable. I don't know how anyone works in it honestly. I'd have ulcers if I worked in the online gaming industry. As to lurking, yeah I'd not visited the site since January of last year looks like. I received an odd PM or two at the time and just decided I don't want whatever that anonymous PM drama was about. Didn't follow it, didn't understand it nor did I have the patience to want to deal with the guessing game of whatever it was about. So I just didn't bother to visit until today. I like my life "less" stressful and when you have teenagers you've got enough already that you don't want add to the stress from something that is supposed to be a hobby! lol
Anyhow good to see that you are still around as well Dennis. :) Looking forward "hesitantly" to EQN to bring it back onto topic related. Though your information about the cuts doesn't make me happy at all. Bleh.

Well to be fair the cuts were in Aug 2013 and were company wide, not specifically focused on EQN/Landmark, so the affects are just sort of the new normal in their dev process by now. EQN has gone through at least 2 other major development restarts and I'm glad they did since the earlier efforts seemed to have been more focused toward putting out a traditional themepark style MMO. I've been hoping one of the big developers would look at the string of failures and decide to break the mold (or at least alter it lol). Maybe EQN will disappoint but at this point its all we've got for any sort of sandbox big release (okay, sandpark but I'll take even that heh). Although as mentioned I'm keeping an eye on ArcheAge which Trion is handling for the English language release and Star Citizen farther down the road.

I loved the idea of EQ:N until I actually saw it in action. More specifically.. watched a live stream. It was kinda ruined when I saw the wizard gates were much more mundane then they were in EQ and EQ2. As I'm sure a million people have said, I liked it better the first time when it was Minecraft.

Keeping an eye on Star Citizen, EQN, Camelot Unchained(did the Kickstarter on that one) and Archeage myself. :) Really was hoping someone would do a really good cyberpunk mmo-rpg. Something with some depth and meat to it. Ah well.

so wandering the islands and some pretty amazing builds being created, someone actually built a USS enterprise for instance, all in all a ton of interesting stuff out there.
