I just fixskilled from an ambushing sword and board ranger to an open archer, and not only am I having a ton of fun using 607 but I also have a lot of TPs that I don't know what to do with. What do other open archers sink their points into? Currently running with a 234 AS with COL signs running and firing a "night black deringo recurve bow" that was sitting around in my locker (5x). And yes I know my Logic is painful.

If you're not hiding, you might want to look into chain armor if you're willing to take the added spell hindrance.

You can bring spirit mana control to 10 to be able to send halfway decent and get a little bump to mana regen. Or to 24 to be able to send fully.

Combat maneuvers for defensive purposes.

If you're GoS, some extra TPs an be funneled into physical fitness for added stamina regen and eventual semi-dux.

First .. bring perception up to full 2x (52 @ lvl 25)
Second.. PF is the best defense against critter maneuvers .. maneuvers are what kill my open archer the most. I advise 2x
Third.. heavier armor can mean a difference between a minor wound and a multi round stun. I advise augmented chain (70 ranks) as soon as you can ( but not at the expense of P.F.)
Fourth.. as stated above defensive cmans are helpful ..but I advise getting them after the above are taken care of.
Fifth..climb/swim are cheap enough I prefer to .5x each
Sixth.. mana share can be helpful ..more mana per pulse return..sending mana for spells..614,620.
Seventh.. don't know your spell training plan but I advise getting 640 by lvl 40.. and filling in the minor circle as you get extra mtp's and finishing it after 640. (Some will argue this point but that is my preference)

Loxe's recommendations are spot on (as always)

If you consider mana sharing, pick up 25 ranks rather than 24, for multi-cast... because, why not, it's just one extra rank!

Magical Lores are an option as well. With the seed calculations, the first few ranks have the biggest benefit.

Ambush training is always an option. It is expensive, it doesn't have any return on investment for a while, but I believe it's the only thing that you can further train in that'll increase your AS, even if that increase is minor. There may also be some scaling benefits to spells or lores for AS that I can't verify without krakii access, but pretty sure it's just Ambush...

Yeah, perception to max and then armor to chain (40 for torso chain, 50 for double chain, 70 for aug chain -- double chain is a good place to stop for awhile). After that, figure out what's killing you and what might be useful. A few CM points for takedown maneuvers would be ok, but you don't really need them for defense yet. If nothing else, you could pick up a few ranks of disarm or feint, though.

Thanks everyone for the advice. According to Tsoran I can bump my AU and PF up to 2x, put my perception at a full 2x, and fit in 19 ranks of SMC. Once i get SMC to 25 I can look at picking up some defensive cmans, lores, or MOC (at least until I reach a level where ambush training would show some returns).

This ranger is overtrained in Armor Use and Spells which are falling back to 1x (110 Armor seems like a post cap goal?).

Climbing and Swimming likely need a little investment, but that's not worth much...

Is it time to start training spiritual lore? Get more Cman? (right now it's rank 5 in cunning defense).

I've purposefully left off Ambush training as it's pretty expensive at 3/3 and I'd have to give something up for only marginal gains right now. I'll switch over to ambush around 80, but I doubt that'll be before 2015's fixskill.

If your persona is not in GoS, I would advise you like other previously to get to 110 ranks of armor. I'd go to 120, personally..The reason why is that hauberk covers your head in chain coverage so in an area where that occurs often, it's not going to be pleasant as a hunt ending scenario because your head is wounded too deeply to cast. I'd go to 120 and stay with your smaller chain and get the armor bonus for overtraining.

As a physical semi, I had 110 ranks of armor use at 55, and if I felt like investing in armor use enhansives, I'd strongly consider trying metal breastplate as a ranger as a capped goal.

If in GoS, sigil of determination ftw. Could consider beginning lores, or MoC to help against Force on Force since you're not a hider.
