I wasn’t going to kill him and town and pay a fine for ‘his’ crime or waste my time outside the gate waiting for him to come out. The ring was a gift I bought for a friend of mine. Didn’t realize it was something that could be stolen as all stealables are in my other containers I keep closed.

If I may.. what I believe Nieninque was doing was blending two commonly used phrases together.

#1 - "Use your head for something besides a hat rack" (or stand)... meaning you have a brain, use it.

#2 - "I would have turned him into mincemeat!"... meaning you would have beaten him to a pulp.


With her version, she cleverly combined the two into basically saying he is stupid and she would have beaten him up. Well done!

The stalking and unhiding trick I believe can be done even if his group is closed. I think I used it once to save someone that was afk with their group closed. Used to steal from a disk I would say is mechanics abuse although don't quote me on that. If his group was open well... it sucks but too bad for him.

If he abused mechanics I think he should be reported (by the victim of course) but if it was legit, I don't see anything wrong with what he did. An arrogant thief but hey, you gotta expect that when the mechanics are on their side. How often does the constable actually believe the victim? Maybe someone can enlighten me on that one because he's never believed me even when I caught the thief red-handed.

I think it's more 50/50.. and if you actually train to stop people from stealing from you, the balance tips greatly in favor of the mark.

And I heard the constable believes people with higher charisma stats than people with lower ones.. but I have no proof of this.

If you used the same syntax in the constabulary that you used earlier in your log, it would explain why you weren't believed. "steal" is not one of the options in the accuse syntax. If you type accuse alone, you'll see the choices. I think PT for petty theft would have been the one, but there's another theft choice, and I don't know the difference.

He is also less likely to believe you if you have committed crimes yourself.

My character fully trains in pickpocket and doubles in perception so she catches alot of thieves, although the only time she ever has any containers open or silvers on her is while she's hunting. She fully believes that anyone so crappy at stealing as to be caught deserves to be punished. She's always been believed which kind of surprised me, because I heard charisma played a part in being believed and her stat is in the negatives.

Thanks for the info. I figured charisma had probably something to do with it and being skilled to catch them makes sense as well. Then again I may have used the wrong syntax too. Apparently the constable doesn't tell you if you don't say it correctly.

Oh, I also tested again the stalk trick to be sure. Here's what I did.

Person closes her group.
I hide.
I stalk person. Once successful, you see you are joined but hidden.
I tackled my cloak to get myself out of hiding without using unhide and sure enough, I was still joined to the person and ready to dig stuff out of her disk.

You dont have to tackle yourself, because simu sucks at programming, they have to tell verbs NOT to knock you out of hiding, so just type DONE.

If this is how Caiy is played (good), then good should of been the call. By killing him, and protecting the moron that left his group open, you would of being serving good, by allowing him to go his own way is the same as doing it yourself.

On a side note, these are reasons why there are so many different ways to be by D&D rules ... from good to evil to chatoic to nuetral ...

Perhaps your problem is, you didn;t know exactly where Caiy should be on this, and exactly where she fits? And you are perhaps searching that out? Since one is ever evolvong and changing.

Hmm, at 52, Stun was able to hit Nazradin ( I think he was 89 or 90 at the time ) on first hit. Maybe it was luck.
