I just assumed pole-arms would only be used as a 2he but silly me didn't do research and apparently they can be used with a shield too. Baring in mind I will most likely fixskill out of polearm once my 30 is done (cleric). I was wondering mechanically if 2he offers more bang for its buck in terms of hitting / damage done (pun totally intended) versus using a polearm one handed. Input or insight is appreciated.

Yes. Check the DF and AVD's of the different weapons on the officials OR krakii. I believe spears are really the only type that can be used with both hands. I'd look it up but it appears I'm just as lazy as you are.

If you can swing a lance in 5 seconds it is likely the best weapon to use. What do you mean by 2he? You mean two-handed weapons and a claid?
Claids are nice with their weighting but it means you'd have to carry or locker another weapon for undead unless you plan to just skip those, which seems kind of silly.

If you want to use a shield you'd probably be better off with a different weapon base, although spear/shield is by no means horrible. Its just that for example, a morning star has such attractive damage factors across the boards. I'd say my preference for one hand weapons is star/handaxe/falchion/hammer/spear/broadsword/mace (the order gets hazy once you get past the first few). Several of the bases are better against lighter/heavier armor or vice versa, some I'd only use if I planned to crush heads all day, etc.

But yeah, the nice thing about a spear/shield combo is that you can put up the shield and use the spear 2h if you don't need the protection of the shield in a certain situation. That would give you the damage factors of the 2h spear (think you have to use the GRIP verb). I think pilums/tridents are also grippable 1h/2h but spears are the overall best of those bases. Spears also work well with hurling (usual disclaimers re: returners/non returners). Spears also have a nice reach, so if you are a short race they can help you aim at body parts you might not be able to reach with say a handaxe.

2H and not 2HE my apologies. and to Jace, I am lazier as you at least offered areas to venture to!
