As the title states, I am in the mind to roll up a new rogue, just a few training questions before I start putting numbers into the spreadsheet. I'd like him/her to be a capable picker(2x w/ self cast lore, 3x post cap perhaps) and open archer.

1) I read on krakii that scarabs can be disarmed w/o arcane symbol training, however training it "helps" is there a generally accepted amount of ranks to train in AS to be able to safely handle those buggers?

2) As a rogue who wants to self cast picking/disarm lore how much mana should I be looking to have? I assume something around 50 mana should be sufficient to cast the spells on myself for a normal picking session.

3) Is it worthwhile to rush armor training with extra points, say before going for 3x dodge? Or is plate a post cap goal?

4) Lastly, how much CM training is needed for a standard open archer? (I will be a giant because I love those hp's)

Thanks for all the help!

Krakii is a bit misleading on that as a low level rogue you aren't going to be disarming scarabs for a while without the AS training, I suggest you start with 10 ranks and add more if you need. 10 ranks works just fine for my rogue but he is 3x picking/disarm.

For mana, most get around 20 for using 403/404, they don't get used all the time and you generally pick on a node so you regain it quickly.

Armor is up to you I guess, at 25 my rogue is still in double leathers, however he usually walks around with spirit and wizard spells. You can likely double armor until 80 ranks at 38 then later on down the road retrain to use fullplate, general consensus is that at higher levels 70+ you'll want fullplate.

Combat maneuvers is something that you don't really need but they can certainly be helpful. You've got mobility which will spring you to your feet while prone and in rt. Disarm and cunning defense. Surge of strength for lowering your rt. Wspec your arrows for a bit more AS. Combat focus for more TD. Divert would likely help with crowd control. Likely the closest thing you have to standard is to get 5 ranks of disarm later on down the road because 2 out of 3 capped areas have it. There are other creatures that disarm but most tend to avoid them but if you plan to hunt them you may want to pick it up early.

I'll try to help out as much as I can on this one. Correct me if I'm wrong:

1. I've always had between 12-14 arcane symbols training from the lower levels to cap and never had any issues with disarming scarabs that I could knock off a box. Any lower than that and I did... But keep in mind I never attempted to disarm random scarabs that I didn't knock off a box. (I would avoid doing that in general - not that people leave scarabs about very often anyway...)

2. Right now at cap I only have 25 mana. I've had a lot lower and never had mana issues.

3. I'm still in FGB (+18 HCP) and can take some good hits without much trouble. I do go into the scatter from time to time and get caught out in the open with a destroyed. For the most part I don't die... But I wouldn't be able to go toe to toe with a destroyer in that gear. I think I'm just lucky that I survive their hits sometimes... I also avoid bad situations or just leave when too much stuff is about. I'm only 2x dodge with working up shield slightly above 1x.

4. I'm axe and board ambusher... Unfortunately I don't know much about archery with a rogue... I don have a 40+ ranger and he wtfpwns everything with a bow.

I doubt this was of much help... But if you ever need any help with anything or questions, feel free to message me in game anytime.

1. 15 ranks of Arcane Symbols will get just about every scarab with 2x disarm

2. 5-10 ranks of Harness Power since you'll hopefully pop those extra points for 406(worth it)

3. 2x armor gets you brig at 13 which will keep you safe until you can get 80 at 38 for MBP
2x dodge gets me by but then again I usually have atleast elemental spells

4. 1x cman will get you through early but if you get the point move it to 2x

5.Archery WTFPWNs no matter your train. As a rogue its even more OP. But I will say... have fun fletching.
