My older computer has been killed by constant downloads (;)) and spyware up the ass. I don't even wanna bother with it anymore. I want to reformat the whole system so it's like how it was when I first got it. But here's the problem, the cd-rom drives don't even work anymore, due to some virus or spyware crap, I don't even know anymore. So I can't use the Windows XP disc..
Anyone know what to do?

start it up with a boot disk and see if you can get it thru there

Get a new drive or a baseball bat.
Your choice.

See how much of it will flush down the toilet.

I will never see Christmas lights the same way.
And oh... um... hope you have backups for all your stuff :( Had to reformat mine once, luckily I had just saved everything. ::wheeze::

Get a 95/98 boot disk with the oaktree CDROM drivers on it. (comes standard on any boot disk from those OS's maybe from 2000 as well)
Start with the boot disk. Should be able to use the CD then. If not just crack the case and ensure that everything is seated firmly. There is no virus on earth that can make a CD-ROM drive quit working after a format. Then just use the boot disk and toss the XP disk in and go.

Boot up into MS-DOS mode.
Then just format the HD.
