View Full Version : Questions about resistances and padding.

So with CCF around the corner I keep debating what to try for in terms of resistances. I do hunt Nelemar, but not Scatter and the default is really OTF. I have two sets of armor that I could get worked on or try for and I just am not sure what creates the best solution.
My first set of armor would be for double leathers, plain doubles versus doubles of the same enchant with exceptional levels of crit padding. To prevent big injuries from charge, which is better if you consider masterwork fittings for pierce protection?
My second scenario is masterfully padded plate with no resistances. What resists would you put on that, and would you use masterwork fittings for a third damage type?
I know that the fittings get reduced based on padding levels, just not sure if 50% fittings on doubles is better than padding with fittings. The characters that wear both sets of armor are in GoS.
I was thinking impact for the plate, but not sure on the second resist. I don't get hit often with lightning in OTF but it could be a good choice.

I am universally a fan of lightning and impact resistances.
They have nasty crit tables, and occur everywhere -- including warding spells. (Resistances help protect against crits from DC.)
Lightning (crystal weapons) and impact (griffin drops) are big killers in OTF.
Plus, a lot of different attacks use the impact table for damage. And they tend to be nasty.
That's my advice.

On the other hand, if you participate in a lot of events, it's hard to beat fire resistance. My other advice is to not split your 30 points into 3 resistances. 30 points will likely save you from nasty stuff like major wave or immolation, 10 points might help some, but it's much less likely to mean the difference between life and death.

What do you think about 15/15 Impact/Lightning?

Considering what you said about where you hunt it sounds decent, but I still lean toward shoving it all into one or the other.

They wouldn't let me split it into 3 at the other CCF anyway. Not sure if the rules have changed this time around.
I prefer piercing/lightning.

What uses impact besides griffin drops? (which shouldn't be a big deal for a plate user)?

Wyrom stated that impact resistance helped against lightning when he was hitting folks with it at RtCF... My choice would be fire/impact but yea, 30% each then up to the max of 50% in time.

So it sounds like 30% impact I guess.

Anyone with impact armor volunteer to take some normal 910/435 lightning attacks?
They're completely different damage tables, with very specific messaging.
Equating super special gm fuck you attacks to normal game hunting is not really a good way to make a mechanics decision.

What damage is elemental wave?

What damage is elemental wave?
Can be just about anything. Most commonly it's fire, but any element is possible.

Major elemental wave depends on the elemental attunement of the creature/wizard. Elemental wave does no damage, 409 uses the impact table

There is absolutely no need to guess. When your resistance activates, you're told.

I suggest impact which protects you from these spells, among other things like being pushed into steam and the griffin drop -- somewhere on krakii is a post about the creature maneuvers it protects from.
