View Full Version : Swimming check before OTF

For you OTF hunters, how many ranks of swimming do you have? I have a character with 30 ranks, and he sometimes (not always) has to swim 2-3 times to get out of the swimming check. This is while unencumbered and uninjured. Today he apparently had several bad rolls and died for the first time while swimming. I guess 30 ranks isn't quite enough. Any recommendations?

I didn't know you could die on that swim. My wizard has 40 ranks of swimming and I can't recall a time he's ever failed that swim.

You can. I've only ever died when I had to go afk during it.

I've got 40 and have never thought twice about it.

I think I had 20? When nelemar opened I got more.

OK, 40 ranks sounds like a good number - thanks.

At 30 ranks I haven't died in probably 500 swims until today. At 40 ranks, I assume it will never happen.

I find it has a level based component as well, 100 is much easier than 90 with the same number of ranks.

fun is when you accidentially drop your vorpal sword of doom while in the swim.

Yeah, I hate how many vorpal sword of dooms I've lost in the swim.

A GM should probably have access to this information.

They probably do, but I am fairly certain they won't tell you. Hell, the exact formula for deeds is still unknown.

I've always wondered about this; why don't ex GMs just leak this information? I mean really, what is Simu gonna do?

They could even pretend they're just a player who figured it out all on their own and be super cool to the GS crowd.

You know, it is kinda surprising that has never occurred, at least, not on a large scale. I guess GS just never had its Edward Snowden.

At this point I'm wondering if even the NSA knows the deed formula.

Another reason to set up Krakileaks.

I was referring to Candor's lame attempt at humor in another thread about him being a GM. He didn't bite though.

Who will infiltrate? I'll do it, I'm exceptionally unknown in the game.

You shouldn't wonder about the NSA.

I dunno, if I had GM powers, I'd spend all day accusing forum people of script hunting.

I'd dupe fusion bows and sell them with my alts.

Adding 10 swimming ranks (to 40 ranks) appears to have resolved the few failures I was having with the swimming check before OTF (you have to fail 4-5 times to die).

I am planning on going to the Temple on Teras in a few weeks. I understand that 50 ranks of swimming there is the bare realistic minimum, and that 70 ranks is preferred. If anyone can comment on this, it would be appreciated.

50 ranks with water walking and 70 ranks without is generally what I tell people. Eventually 101 ranks is a nice goal, especially if you hunt Nelemar a lot, it does help when they are trying to drown you, although PF will help you more.

Ack...only 1x in PF. Oh well, it's only a deed.

If you are capped most tasks can be done on the third floor easily enough and there is no water there so no drowning.
