View Full Version : Is it worth reactivating for a month to sell stuff?

I haven't played in several years, so I have only a vague memory of what I've got tucked away in lockers and stuff, but I could use some cash and thought I'd give this a shot. I have an account with a 40-someodd rogue (probably low 40s - master of rogue gambits and has some progress in other skills but nothing fantastic) and assorted level 5-25 other classes. It also has a self-charging, 9x/3 days defensive spell of some sort (I want to say blurs? Maybe 406? Not sure). I believe it's pin worn, but could be wrong on that too. There's also a bracelet that I want to say is 3x/day 107, but again I'm foggy on it. There's a 4x longsword that's HCW against living things and permablessed with holy water flares against undead. I remember it having some other funky property, but not what it was. Um. 5k-ish premium points. Roughly half that in plat points (if acct is sold, any plat characters will be deleted first to avoid RP confusion issues).

I think armor is 6 or 7x and some non-negligible level of crit padded. Shield is either a high enchant, or a mid enchant with +10 TD (permanent). I know I had both at one point, but no idea what I still have. Might still be both. There's a variety of fun scripted items, some pretty old and/or rare. Most are wearable, since I never liked needing to get my toys out to play with them. Lower level characters have lockers and containers stuffed full of a metric fuckton of things I bought at assorted festivals with the intent of reselling, and never got around to. Most of it is mechanically beneficial, rather than fun scripts or looks (potions or items with spells in them, containers that were exceptionally light/deep for their type, that sort of thing). I'm not kidding when I say there's a fuckton of it. I wouldn't be at all surprised to pull in 10-20 million at pawnshop prices.

Speaking of millions, there's a bunch of silver in there. I haven't the foggiest idea how much, but I do remember that the last time I was playing, I started feeling poor if I dropped below 25m and acted to rectify the situation. So probably at least that. If you play Shattered, the account includes Bacons and an assortment of Marlu-themed alters for your entertainment.

My question is - is it worth reactivating and paying $90 for a month of premium on 2 accounts to unload this crap? Are the items I listed worth anything reasonable (assuming my memory of them is correct)? I have neither the time nor the motivation to go through it all and get an inventory, values, etc. If there's solid interest with cash ready to back it up I will happily get the high end stuff sung to by a mutually agreeable trustworthy bard, but the piles of small stuff would be sold en masse and left to the buyer to figure out. It's probably well worth the buyer's time, as a lot of it is old and that usually means at least some things that aren't available anymore and now sell for far more than they ought to. I just can't be bothered. I would love to sell the whole mess to a single person, but I know I'm more likely to find a couple people interested in different items.

I also have another account (standard) with a level 63 Wizard on it, optimized for enchanting. He may have a couple items I was working on enchanting (nothing spectacular), or he may have nothing at all. Assume he's naked, when looking at value. The final account (premium) has a 30s Empath and assorted minor crap, with more locker mules full of random sellables.

I think it would be worth the $90 based on current coin prices alone. I would be interested to see what it in there. If you have a single price in mind shoot me a message.

25 mil x $14/mil = $350. For starters, you could get that easily. Also sell items that are good fodder for things like epic deepening, padding and weighting before the up coming CCF, then sell everything else afterwards. So as a SWAG, you make $600 pre-CCF and another $600 afterwards, then subtract $90.

I have no idea what any of this is worth anymore. My hope was that people might have a rough idea of value based on the little I'm able to remember now. If said rough idea seemed worth the time, I'd reactivate and get some more solid info on the high end items.

you would easily make back the 90 bucks just on the premie points. if you never plan to play again, honestly you may as well reactivate and sell stuff.

5k on the low end of pp's will net you like 250-300 easy. So right there you double to triple your investment.

There really is no way you could lose out.

With all due respect to Buckwheet and fully acknowledging he has a heck of a lot more sway in this matter. I personally wouldn't use the current coin prices (14-16 per million) to determine how much you could get out of it. Coins are this high now because of CCF and I would fully expect them to drop to probably 9 per (could be as high as 10 or as low as 8 though) after this event and between the next big event. Since it would take some time to actually liquidate this account the coin prices would probably need to be taken into account.

So at let's say, at 9 per you need to be able to make 10m to cover the cost of opening and selling the account. That's really your absolute baseline number to break even.

If you have ~25m in the bank you're easily making money without even getting to the items, chars and PP's yet.

So in the end I'd agree with Buckwheet and say you should reactivate.

I am 99.99% positive she could flip the coins immediately at 12 per. That alone makes it worth it, if she wants to try for 15 per it might take more time and stuff.

Even without current pricing..reactivate, yeah. As someone speced for longswords, I'd be quite interested in that item most likely. PM me if you reactivate and figure out exactly what it does. :)

Reactivate today and get rid of the coins. Worry about the other stuff after that. The coin value has no place to go but down after this weekend. The items won't change much in value whether you sell for coins or cash, but the coins will within the next few days. Something you sell today for 10 mil would like sell for closer to 18-20 when coins values drop again.

I'd agree with that 100%.

I was more thinking about the items and ultimate liquidation of the account.

after this weekend? There's still 2 weeks until CCF. plenty of time to unload coin

This. If anything, coin may go even higher shortly before the event. Either way, selling now, can't lose.

My mistake. I'm not going and I thought it was this weekend.

It seems pretty clear that even if I do nothing but sell the silver, it's worth it. I'll reactivate this weekend and put that up for sale. Once my girls are poor again, I'll work on items/characters/etc and see what happens. Thanks all for the input so far!

Now the only question - do I use Wizard the first time I log in for nostalgia, or Stormfront because I liked it 10x better? hmmm....

I use SF whenever I decide to break open a locker character for liquidation. I just find the links useful for selecting specific items from lockers instead of having to type "get fifth whatever from chest".

I did. Never did a damn thing with it. I planned on using the bard for all sorts of stuff, and never even sang to a single item! I forgot that existed. I should probably call Simu and find out exactly what I have available for accounts before I go clicking random buttons to reactivate stuff.

When you first load up, pick stormfront, and type Resync. Instant nostalgia.

I'd be interested in the bard <insert creepy comment about it belonging to Diethx.>

there appears to be a high demand for bards at the moment...

You can still access your lockers on a basic subscription. All your locker items will just be stuffed into one small locker.

I think it's worth it for the sense of closure. Once you sell everything, then you're truly out of the game. Just make sure you're not going to want to come back some time in the future. Most people do.

Agreed with all that's been stated and would be interested in a bulk sale too. Feel free to send a message! :)
