People have told me it's possible to skip the swim with 740. I would love to, since it's the only hunting ground keeping me trained in swimming (seeking and return get me in and out of nelemar and the rift).

I agree that it's possible with fancy chalk, but I haven't been able to find two rooms where it will work with cheap chalk. Everything on the Illistim side of the swim is a sapphire blue rune, and everything near the swim on the OTF side is scarlet (or just won't let me sense a pattern). Does anyone know of an exception?

That's interesting. My sorceress isn't old enough to hunt OTF so I never have tried looking. I take it that OTF is considered on the Vaalor side then? From one side of the swim to the other it is different?

ta'vaalor is another color as well. i don't think it's likely to find a ta'illistim or ta'vaalor rune in OTF. but then again if you do it could be a bug. it would be similar to finding a room in OTF where you could hear the crystal amulet from one of those towns.

They intentionally made OTF another 'zone' so skill checks couldn't be bypassed. Same reason Nelemar can't - couldn't previously- be ported into; don't want people bypassing those skill checks! And then they updated Voln, said fuck the skill check, and fuck you, too, sorcerers, cause you're still not porting in. Simu-logic ftw!

Not sure how much different 740 is but I bard song out of the rift once I hit Gyldemar Road and it drops me off at Feystone.

The thing with the OTF realm is it's not a completely consistent boundary. You can use symbol of return to get past the swim, for instance. I think that's in spots where you can't sense a 740 pattern, though.

Kind of glad to hear that I'm not missing a known trick, even if it's not the result I wa hoping for. I can re-spend the PTPs and get on with hunting.

For what it's worth, 25 ranks of swimming seems fine to get in and out unencumbered (with +24 STR bonus and 96 ranks PF). I've missed the check a few times but I haven't gotten close to drowning. Now that the bowels are past me, I think I'll stick with just those 25 ranks.

Swim it with your hands empty. If I remember correctly, the swim into OTF and several other swims (but not Nelemar) were updated a while ago to cause you to drop held items if you drown.

I dropped in an item in there on accident, I think because I was running go2 at same time as some other inventory management script. I freaked out, but after more than a couple minutes I found out you *can* recover stuff from in there (subject to the janitor, I'm sure.) I think I had to search and then get it,

I was just using expensive chalk to enter/exit.
