View Full Version : Ditch the lockpick?

So, I'm tempted to drop down and only 1x lockpicking and disarming skills so that way I can put more points into being able to easily smash things to pieces.

I'd like to be able to continue picking my own boxes...would I be able to do so with 1xing in them instead of the 2x I am now? I'd end up with 18 ranks instead of my 36.

Sound like a good or bad idea?

Probably won't be able to pick your own at 1x.

As an archer, my rogue can triple picking, have his own lores and crit stuff in the eye!

I'd ditch it all or keep 2x.

There is no reason a rogue cannot "smash" things as well as go full 2x in picking/disarming/perception.

Post your training and we will take a look.

Falgrin is 2x plus is 1.5 in CM, has 7 ranks in harness power and 12 ranks in MIU. He smashes fine.

I doubt you'll ever be able to pick your own at 1x.

That said, I dropped picking completely, and haven't had any real problems. That may be just because I'm going to be hunting things that don't drop boxes for awhile, but whatever. Most rogues will pick for other rogues for free, and a 2-5k tip doesn't really put a dent in the bank account.

Well, now that I look it over, I mostly wanted to use those lockpicking points for armor ranks so I can start wearing brig. I'm wondering if I can shuffle anything else around that I might not need in order to get the ranks.

HAHA WTF. You're trying to 1x ranged, 2x TWC and Edged, 1x CM...

Whoever taught you to train needs to be shot.

To elaborate, drop Ranged. 1xing will do next to nothing for you as a rogue. You won't be able to hit anything your level.

ERR HAHA NM SHE'S MIGRATING.

Ah fuck, forgot to take that out. I was going to do ranged and then decided to drop it to go back to twc edged.

I agree.. it's fun to play with but really holds no practical purpose. Put all those ranks into armor. Also, why so much scroll reading? Is that to get into MS or just to have the ability to read scrolls? Personally.. I would drop those down a bit before I ever dropped my locksmithing to 1x.

Either 2x lock stuff or 0x it.. anything less and you won't be able to get your own boxes.. especially since you don't have spells.

Or you could keep enough ranks of picking just to use it for learning methods rather than picking your own age reasons.

I was told that arcane runes helps with disarming scarabs. That's why I trained in it.

Does it just help you *see* that you successfully disarmed it? Or does it really help you in the disarming itself?

It's a huge point of debate, because no one knows. Personally, I believe it helps, but haven't had a low enough level picker to test that theory on since the changes rolled in.

Edited to add 1x + lore is fairly effective. One of the rogue board regulars swears he never has trouble with his boxes, and he's around level 50. Downside - you have to get lores. Otherwise, the advice has been right. 0x or 2x. In between only if you want to play around when you're bored.

Oh yeah, I remember... the swashbuckling sylvan babe. Hows it going with TWC? Like, dislike? The only time I had real trouble was in a swarm.

Shari

I like it. I try to avoid swarms because I'll just end up getting smashed. But for ambushing it is a lot of fun.

You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a finely-honed vultite shortsword at a krolvin warfarer!
AS: +227 vs DS: +171 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +66 = +157
... and hit for 32 points of damage!
Deep, bloody slash to the krolvin warfarer's right thigh!
The krolvin warfarer is knocked to the ground!
The krolvin warfarer is stunned!
You swing a slim-bladed imflass tanto at a krolvin warfarer!
AS: +219 vs DS: +117 with AvD: +22 + d100 roll: +8 = +132
... and hit for 23 points of damage!
Strike pierces calf!
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>hide
Roundtime: 3 sec.
You attempt to blend with the surroundings and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.
>ambush warf left eye
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a finely-honed vultite shortsword at a krolvin warfarer!
AS: +227 vs DS: +112 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +85 = +235
... and hit for 62 points of damage!
Slash strikes the krolvin warfarer's left eye.
Seems there was a brain there after all.
The krolvin warfarer screams one last time and lies still.
The deep blue glow leaves a krolvin warfarer.
The light blue glow leaves a krolvin warfarer.
The powerful look leaves a krolvin warfarer.
The bright luminescence fades from around a krolvin warfarer.
The silvery luminescence fades from around a krolvin warfarer.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

Now, if someone wants to buy me some better weighted shortswords or daggers, I would <3 them forever. :D

Dang. Nice moves. Tried a longsword as your primary and short for secondary?

If I were still playing and had this character, I’d be tempted to drop dodge and armor alltogether, max CM and get more magic related skills.

Shari

Ish, could you imagine the rt!? And dropping the dodge? I would get squished.

1x ambush won't be very affective.

I'm about 10 ranks over 1x, and I do fine.

I'm 1x. I can hit what I'm aiming for most of the time, with a battle axe.

At 15, you could 1x a weapon and do the smashy-smashy without a problem.
