This is what we should have done in 2008. I hope we spend more than the 300 billion proposed.

So yesterday, I launched new hubs to attract 21st century manufacturing jobs to America. And today, I’m here to launch a new competition for 21st century infrastructure and the jobs that come with it, because any opportunity agenda begins with creating more good jobs. And one of the fastest and best ways to create good jobs is by rebuilding America’s infrastructure -- our roads, our bridges, our rails, our ports, our airports, our schools, our power grids. We’ve got a lot of work to do out there, and we’ve got to put folks to work.

Didn't Obama say he was going to erase the US deficit by doubling US exports in one of his terms?

HAHA! Did he? That sounds like a tall order.

Ya, looks like he did.

Via the AP:

Back in January 2010, President Barack Obama set a lofty goal of doubling U.S. exports in five years. With just 18 months to go to 2015, that target seems to be slipping beyond reach and has vanished from White House talking points. …

Yup. (http://www.aei-ideas.org/2013/08/in-2010-obama-promised-to-double-exports-in-5-years-a-completely-unrealistic-goal-except-for-petroleum-products/)

Everyone laughed at him.

I'll give Obama credit for one thing; he sure is a smooth talker. He can convince people the sky is neon green with his bullshit. I really think the US should create a new appointed position and Obama should have the first lifetime term.

He can go around the country and just raise campaign dollars that go into a political coffer that anyone running for office can draw funds from. He can also go around the world and promote the US' image.

These are Obama's strong suits, why let such a talent go to waste? Just stay out of politics, okay Obama? :/

Bill Clintons got that job and they don't get along. Of course when Hillary's President there will be an opening so it just might work out like you say.

That's the same shit he's been saying for 5+ years, rebuilding infrastructure, roads, bridges, etc.

I'm amazed that so many people are incapable of picking up on this.

He didn't save America. Hitler and Tojo did. If it weren't for them we'd not have gotten out of the depression when we did.

He's got limited time and he knows it. He also knows that his playbook apparently sucks. Why not look to the most popular socialist president of the 20th century for a few pointers. I'm surprised he hasn't dusted off the 2nd Bill of Rights yet.

Obama wants $300 billion infrastructure development, because (1) it is arguably bipartisan, and (2) significantly less likely to go horribly wrong (like Obamacare did).

I would not mind experiencing way less potholes or flatter freeways. But I think that is more due to using suboptimal cement/whatever to save a few $$.

Stimulus 2.0?

I'd sure love to see it. That's a great job for government to do, it's a big job and it's necessary.

Obama is going to rebuild it in his own name. PCH is now the OCH.

Our infrastructure is arguably shit.

There are 5 Bridges where I live that should be closed. 1 of them is so crumbled that you can SEE THRU IT.

Did you know our Government collects 165 billion from taxes each year specifically to pay for infrastructure?

Did you know that a significant portion of that 300 billion is for what I would consider non infrastructure? Like railways. maybe fix dams and bridges before building railways.

I am all for infrastructure REPAIRS. Not like where I live, where they have spent 2 years tearing up the same road 4 times to put in new pipes, then make the road bigger, add a turning lane.. remove a turning lane.. all so a hospital can buy a piece of farmland and put in a clinic. BTW... they stole 500 feet of land from a diner, 100 feet from a car dealership, and TRIED to take away a cemetery to do it. But the city officials decided against the cemetery when the people told them that if they did, none would get re-elected.

Btw... they spent 12 million dollars.. the city. And the clinic won't be built till 2018.

On another note..

a small 30 foot bridge near me took the state and city 18 months to complete. Whereas a quarry put in a new 75 foot bridge in 4 months for their dump trucks.

if the president was REALLY concerned about infrastructure repair.. he would ask for 300 bill, ALL for repair, not new railways. And NOT insist on union only workers.

Paying 12 guys to stand around and watch one guy lay down asphalt doesn't sound like a good use of funds to me.

I'd imagine some sort of ideal ratio of people to miles of road/lines/pipe exists somewhere. Speaking for my own area, infrastructure is woefully inadequate. We had a major interstate bridge shut down for months (not due to Christie...or maybe it was) due to structural integrity issues. The other main bridge was built at the same time and isn't in any better shape. Water delivery systems are antiquated, never having been meant to service so many homes. Our road capacities haven't kept up with the growth of our driving population. Sewers built 100 years ago aren't keeping up anymore. Governments are too busy with 134634623469-9463460 other things they've no business doing/spending money on to do one of the main things they should be doing which is infrastructure, imo.

Quite a while between when he was elected and we entered the war. Hitler wouldn't have existed without said Depression.
