Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with this guy.

He? goes by the names of Krilzin, Adynai, Eryjah, Seraphenia

Last week he singled out a friend of mine and proceeded to harass her with behavior that's bizarre enough that is has me worried about other peoples safety in game. Flame away if you want but I'd rather endure a few insults than to see someone get hurt IRL because of someone who is so obviously mentally unstable.

Over the course of the past two weeks he has;

Fixated on my friend even though she had a boyfriend in game and didn't appear interested. They've never dated or even shared a "moment" in game.

Grown livid that she went afk to check on her children (he felt it necessary to yell at and belittle her because of this)

Rolled a character that looked exactly like her, same race, same hair, same eyes. Then told her he was her brother and he wanted to have incest with her.

Told her he was coming into a lot of money soon and that one day he was going to show up on her doorstep unannounced two continents away.If you don't think that's creepy try to remember she has children.

Lied to my fiancee by telling her he saw my friend and I kissing.....to get back at her for some imaginary slight I am assuming.........who really knows when you're dealing with someone who's crazy?


Even more disturbing is that this behavior has crossed over from in game, to Ventrilo and Lnet and across multiple characters and accounts.

He cant seem to keep them separate or even know where to draw the line between roleplaying and harassment and in-game and IRL.

He always seems to target those who play females in the game. All of the ones Ive see are empaths and usually Aletoi as well.

Just now I saw him log in under Saraphenia (not hard to figure out when someone logs off on one character and another logs in immediately afterwards) and ask for healing.

He surprised the healer and everyone else by kissing her deeply.It was obvious from her reaction she didnt even know that particular character. The healer was so flustered she left two minutes after that.

He has been reported and the G.M's are aware of this extremely bizarre behavior but Im putting this out here because my conscience wont let me do otherwise.

If anyone else has had similar experiences with this person please post them here so we can warn others as well. As crazy as his actions are I'm not willing to bet my life or anyone else's that he's harmless or just some douchebag kid having fun in-game at others expense.

If someone makes a character with an almost exact name as yours and you feel that it is with the intent of mocking/harassing you, then you should assist and make it known. Also, if you are having trouble with someone, make sure you use the WARN verb. Then, next time they fuck with you, you can point to that as evidence. It's like when someone tries to take out a restraining order on their insane ex boyfriend.. it doesn't keep the insane ex boyfriend from coming back to beat them up, but it does help get them put in prison faster.

Sounds irritating as hell and definitely isn't a worthwhile addition to your gaming experience but hopefully it won't REALLY transfer to real life. No one's given out too much RL personal information? Full real name, job, city/state?

Thankfully no....My friend did mention she lived in New Zealand but unless hes got a ton of money he isnt getting there from the states easily or cheaply.

I have played GS since 1991. In that time, I have come across four or five players who didn't seem to understand the difference between the game and real life. One of these players had trouble understanding that my stealing silvers from him was not the same as stealing real life dollars. Another followed me around for weeks saying he wanted to marry me. One or two others had some really, really strange outbursts when things didn't go their way (in one case, because I wouldn't introduce him to a female friend I had in the game).

If you think you have encountered a player like this, you need to avoid that player as much as possible. Assisting and reporting are the correct actions if things get too strange or you feel that you are being harassed. If the problem continues, write feedback. Avoid attacking or casting offensive spells at the player except as a last resort (this includes spells like SILENCE and BIND), because then it will look like you are part of the problem, and this could further empower the player to bother you.

One last thing - my experience with the WARN verb with these types of players has been negative. It's not that the verb itself is a bad idea - it's just that players who don't fully understand that the game isn't real life seem to react very badly to the output of the verb.

It's like in real life with a restraining order, though. Some people respect it. Some people are insane and then go out of their way to kill you after you get one. But you still should get one, because it clears up a lot of red tape.

It would be nice of the SQUELCH had a verb component where it would basically put you at a cold demeanor with that person that would canvas EVERY possible verb. So, in essence, they couldn't bother you even if they wanted to.

You could sort of do something similar by befriending cold. This has the added benefit of letting you know if/where he is ig.

That is a good idea. Have you suggested it? It seems like something that could be implemented without any major rewrites, at least for the verbs that currently support demeanors.

I don't believe it would be the seamless fix you'd think. Lysistrata was often on reserved demeanor if not outright cold but I occasionally lifted it to neutral if the situation called for it. But sometimes the wrong people were able to take advantage of it, namely empaths, those shameless hussies. So I had empaths set to cold constantly, just so they couldn't be all huggy and leany all over her when her demeanor was changed briefly, forcing uncharacteristic companionable grins and the like out of my character.

I also had certain people befriended cold just so I couldn't slip up and forget to change her demeanor when interacting with them. It didn't mean I didn't WANT to interact with them, just that my character wouldn't be anything but Arctic cold towards them. I never liked RP that was all sunshine and rainbows and kittens (that weren't dead and skinned, anyway) so the cold demeanor isn't some last resort thing for me, reserved only for people I, as the player, don't like. Hell, my character's ordered hits on characters played by people I liked.

The demeanor and befriending systems are more complicated than you'd think, with people using it in different ways for different situations. Not everyone's character is default set to friendly or warm or nice-shoes-let's-fuck or whatever. I hope GMs keep that in mind when contemplating such a change to the demeanor system. It'd really have to be an added option other than just befriend (asshole) cold.

Not that it's on-topic with the concept of befriending to avoid a creeper, but I always found it fun to remain neutral towards most and let my characters opinion of their interaction with him guide his actions. I had fun with the interactions when someone would step over the line or something, rather than just letting game mechanics decide they couldn't come near him.

Also, most people tend to share basic information like that when first getting to know someone before finding out that they are a complete lunatic. No harm in sharing basic information like what state/country/whatever you live in as long as you don't get too specific.

I had a serious problem with a whacko in game several years ago. Luckily a serious talking to from a GM got him off my case in game. And out of it, a threaten from a lawyer.

And this was someone I had spent a lot of time with, and then suddenly went batshit obsessive crazyass. He had done the same thing with another of his characters with another girl in game at the same time. He had casually mentioned her and on a hunch I sought her out. We compared notes and went to the GM's together.

Reading this thread got me thinking of a script to write.

Instead of just adding someone's name to the stormfront squelch strings (which really fucks things up like not showing anyone in the room when the ignored person is in the room) the script would basically make it like the person doesn't exist.

Looking when in a room just wouldn't show their name or their disk but everything else would be the same.

Also options so it would hide only verbs performed towards you or all verbs or anytime someone mentions the persons name.

Would anyone find this useful or should we just stick to squelching their names in stormfront?

This is the player of Saraphenia Silverglen. Just to clarify, I am NOT the one that plays Krilzin, Adynai, Eryjah, or Seraphenia. The name of MY character is spelled SARAPHENIA, not SERAPHENIA. Here's my character discription:

You see Lady Saraphenia Silverglen the Battlechanter.
She appears to be an Aelotoi of the Mrae'ni Clan.
She is shorter than average and appears to be youthful. She has almond-shaped blue-black eyes and olive skin. She has waist length, glossy blue-black hair wound with a rope of rose vines. She has an oval face, an upturned nose and a generous mouth. A bunch of white oleander peeks out from behind her ear. She has a pair of long, bronze-veined, silver-hued wings.

I just put my base description, because it'd be too long to list all my clothes and such, but anyway, I just wanted, again, to clarify, that this person who is acting flaky is NOT ME. I have dealt with the character of Adynai under my character of Septuna Dragorth (a sylvan healer), and I have had issue with him stealing heals. I hope this clears up any confusion there. I have worked to build a rather good rep for Saraphenia, and I don't want to see it ruined by a misidentification. Japhrimel knows Saraphenia, so he can be asked about her as well.

Well, I'm also not suggesting it actually BE a demeanor specifically and in truth let's be honest when it gets to this point you're not longer rping. You're either stalking or dodging a stalker. It would be nice to have an option like IGNORE that wouldn't create the issues squelch does and it would be used by people who simply don't want to see with or deal with someone else under any circumstances. Despite the possible abuse, think of how much less time people would waste trying to get a GM to make so-and-so leave them alone if they never even knew that person was bugging them!

the things that can happen when someone lies about something, and then takes it way too far. phalcon your imagination is definately creative. but you really should keep to yourself. i will explain this stupidity for you all, and spend the next few minutes of my time picking through this whole rant to make sure everything has been revealed.

first off, i dont have a character named seraphenia. never have, never will. i play male characters.
next i have done nothing out of common actions to your IG girlfriend aleayah. i have been "friendly" to her on two of my characters and nothing more. i would see her getting overwhelmed with people needing healing when she was trying to hunt, i would log on my empath, give her mana, take her wounds, heal up, and log off. (thats so threatening guise)

next we have (Grown livid that she went afk to check on her children (he felt it necessary to yell at and belittle her because of this) im guessing this is ciulin. we were leveling alts and she said she had to go afk for 30 minutes. she never logged back on. the next morning i saw her and asked where she went. she told me that she fell asleep while taking care of her little one. i made no further comments on the matter.
as for making a character that looked like hers, there's actually not much we have in common. her character has black hair, mine had blue-black hair. i asked her when i made the character what race and clan or w/e she was so that i would have the same starting point. we ended up moving to the landing because neither of us was familiar with the elven nations.

There's going to be options so you only block the person's speech, block just their verbs to you, block all their verbs, blocks just their presence in the room and possibly even an option to block every mention of their name similar to how stormfront handles it but without breaking rooms and disks and yadda yadda.

Now I just need someone to help me get repo working :/

It's not about trying to impress anyone, it's about having courtesy and basic consideration for your fellow man. For those of us who read well, capitalization, punctuation and grammar allow us to quickly glean the meaning of what you're attempting to communicate. You don't have to get it perfect, but if you're serious about getting your point across, you should at least try.
