View Full Version : The scatter hunting

I'm just a newb rogue with a fix skill looking for a direction to take so I can actually start hunting the scatter instead of picking and doing bandit task.

I use to go in and pick off siphons, but sometimes it would take way too long looking for spawns. I've been doing handaxe and shield ambushing for them and typically one shotting them. I have a fix skill available after doing my fix stat. Trying to figure out a build that would help me hunt the other things in there if that's even possible with about 8m experience.

I'm currently running around in FG brig. I could probably attemp fighting the destroyers but I have a feeling I'll probably die if I miss.

Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated. Hoping to stick with my handaxe and shield. But would consider changing up armor at the sacrifice of picking or something like that.

Thanks!
Neovik

In case you haven't messed around on plane 4 yet, you should give that a shot.

Granted, I'm ranged but I'll give you my thoughts anyway... I just stick with cerebralites. Their 712 retribution is kind of annoying but it's only health and RT so as long as you have vanish and a decent way to get health back it's not bad. They don't seem to have any natural padding either so an endroll around 250 to the eye is a kill. Rift crawlers aren't bad either. I think sword/board would be better against them (remember to carry a dagger in case you get swallowed). Don't expect to hide in front of them, though, unless you have max hide enhancives. Fallen crusaders mess with me a lot but I don't know what they're like to attack since I don't bother with undead. Overall, plane 4 has a steady yet not overwhelming spawn rate.

The thing that sucks about the Scatter is if you can't kill destroyers, you'll eventually get to the point where they're in almost every room and you basically have to leave.

Even if there is other stuff in the room, they can enrage you or whatever it is that sticks you in offensive, along with other annoying shit that you can't do anything about that will get you killed.

Yeah maybe I should step back a notch and hang out on four. I can't touch crusader's but I can one shot crawlers and celebrates at times. The downside is that I don't get to build up favor as I hunt on four and the health thing with the celebrates is annoying...

Yeah that's my problem when going for the siphons. I haven't really taken on a destroyer yet.

I would try the destroyers. They're easy to hit for a square, so I would think you should be able to one shot kill them.

Against destroyers you just want to not let them attack you, or have enough DS so that it doesn't matter. In offensive you want to shoot for about 500.

I stay off 4, but I thought the problem with 4 was too many crawler burrows?

Field picking on 5 is how you get favor, Neovik. I thought I explained this to you.

As for hunting the scatter/4, I think you're better off on 4 than the scatter. Unless you can reliably one-shot the destroyers, and then you should be pretty set for north scatter.

As you said, missing on the destroyers will get you wrecked.

It kind of depends. My experience as a square is that the destroyers are easy, and never kill me unless it's in combination with someone else. Most of the time when I die it's a lucky shot by a fetish master, or that nasty siphon maneuver that gives you 3 wounds and RT and a stun... then something walks in, or several somethings, and they finish you off.

You might also want to consider heavy armor. I've never gone up against destroyers wearing only brig. Not getting hit by them is going to be a much bigger deal in a set of brig than a set of plate.

You realize you're a corner-case, right Kerl?

Fallen crusaders are undead so you can always take down 3-4 to keep your favor going up. Really, 1-2 crusaders should be enough to cover courage/protection. They're level 97 so it's not a big step down.

He mentioned he can't touch them. Being they are noncorp, and regen HP at insane speed they aren't the easiest to melee, even worse if you care about treasure because they also fade so putting enough damage via mstrike swings to kill before they regen you guarantee a long rt.

It's actually easier to gain favor from siphon's as they are corporeal using hide/ambush. Hopefully he can ward the spells though..

Yeah I should just field pick on 5, that's the solution. I need Kirael and you backing me up while I do that though. I remember my last death up there... it was a nightmare. Me... you... Herberto... dead side by side as ten other people die coming to get us.

After that little incident I try to be as careful as possible and stay hidden most of the time.

Siphons are definitely great XP and good for favor for me. It's just difficult tracking them down. Some times it can get really swarmy in there with a bunch of creatures and not a single Siphon.

I don't think my DS is quite high enough to survive a swing from a Destroyer. I'm kinda far away from wearing Plate and if I do... I would have to ditch picking for now if I wanted to go that direction.

Get a major tent and pick in the scatter. :)

Sure. I realize I am not the norm, but it is a post cap hunting area. If you aren't significantly post cap, you're probably going to find the scatter to be a challenge. Or you can team up with someone, but that's not always safer either.

A major tent would probably get me to come back and play again.
