I didn't want to pollute the Obamacare thread with NCAA football, so I moved this here.
Remember that when Auburn runs all over FSU. Neither Bama, nor Mizzou could stop Auburn's running, and their rush defense was a lot more stout. FSU is going to get hit physically in a way they haven't seen this season.
FSU'll be needing some Obamacare after the game. (SEE? I MADE IT IN TOPIC!)
I wouldn't classify Alabama's rush defense as "a lot more stout" compared to FSU. Alabama averaged 108ypg vs. FSU of 116... but what made the FSU defense so good was their passing defense that was #1 with only 152ypg allowed.
And let's be perfectly honest...Auburn beat Alabama via a fluke play.
FSU will be favored by 10 points.. and will end up easily beating the spread.

Auburn is a rushing team though, they don't care about your pass defense. The only team worth a damn that FSU played was Clemson. Yes, Auburn lost to Bama by a fluke play, but I offer that Bama, Auburn, or even Mizzou could beat FSU.

I will pray for a sinkhole too, at the Orange Bowl.

Also, I'm pretty pissed that they matched Bama with Oklahoma. The whole country wants it to be Bama and Oregon. Maybe next year in the playoffs.

The SEC is overrated. Auburn could have easily been a 3 loss team if not for fluke plays against Alabama and an injury plagued Georgia team. Who wins the title remains to be seen, but don't think FSU is just going to roll over and die. Auburn doesn't exactly have an NFL quality defense, so expect FSU to put up a few points of their own.

One thing to get straight, no NCAA team has NFL quality anything. The ACC is garbage though, and no, I don't expect them to roll over and die, I hope they put up a better game then ND did last year when they were all the hype.
Also, SEC overrated? lolz. About to be 10 crystal footballs for the SEC, bud with 8 of those in a row.

What I'm most curious about is UF. I'm pretty positive all the coordinators will probably be sacked, but I was confident Muschamp would keep his job... Until they lost to Georgia Southern. To be fair, Georgia Southern will be an FBS team next year in the Sunbelt, but God.. How far that team has fallen since last year.

Notre Dame had no business playing in that game. And yes, the SEC is overrated. They do have a few very good teams, but none that are any better than the top teams in every other league. I'd say Auburn and FSU are fairly evenly matched on offense, but FSU, without question, has a better defense. Auburn would not have beaten a Georgia team that has been decimated by injury had it not been for Georgia's own mistake at the end, and had the Alabama game gone to OT, I would have been stunned had Auburn come away with the win. If you sit down objectively (without the overhyped SEC bias) and watch the games, you would notice that Auburn is a very good team, but is by no means unbeatable. Who will win, I can't say, but it will sure as hell be a tough game with such extreme offensive talent on both teams. Personally, I see FSUs D stepping up to the table and knocking off Auburn, but I'm obviously biased, so who really cares what I think?
Gelston
12-10-2013, 03:07 AM
No team is unbeatable. And yes, Bama would have won, but I base my statement about Auburn being over FSU based on who they have played. FSU played Clemson. Nothing else on their schedule was a true test, and while you can say "fluke plays" or "The other team was injured" a W is a W. Would I have preferred Bama? Yes. I was rooting for Mizzou at the SEC Championship. Auburn beat Texas A&M. They kept Manziel from going too insane(Of course, LSU totally stomped that guy, Geaux Tigers! :) ). I think they'll be able to handle Winston to a degree.

What other bowl games are yall interested in? The Oklahoma Bama one is a fucking joke, IMO. I did just watch the FSU v BC game, and it actually made me a little excited to see the Arizona BC one we have coming here. So, I'll probably be going to the Independence Bowl. MSU/Stanford should be a good one as well. I'd also like to see Clemson jack up OSU.

Playing a team not in the top 10 for the third best team is pathetic. I hope it gets figured out in the playoff next year because this is atrocious.

Gelston, like you I am an LSU go so of course the Outback Bowl, although if LSU plays anything close to their capabilities it should not be that much of a challenge, but which LSU team will show up? Other bowls, Gator, curious whether Georgia can put it back together, Capitol One, just because I like the Ole Ball Coach, Fiesta because I want to know if UCF is the real deal, Cotton because I like both teams, Orange because I really want Meyer to have two losses and I really wish people would stop saying he is an SEC coach, he quit the SEC when it became obvious he could not handle the pressure, and then of course the BCS championship game, which I happen to think is a toss-up. I like the Tigers and 'Noles both so it is a win-win for me.

Well, for LSU we aren't getting Mettenberger back, so it is a preview of next year sorta with Jennings starting. He looked damn good at the Arkansas game. True enough. I think I'm more pissed at him because sometimes it causes us to lose games we should have won, although, a lot of times the High School LSU team shows up instead of the college one. Still, nothing worse than Saban's fuck up against Auburn.

Well, that is what happens when you put 10 fat guys on the field to prevent a blocked field goal try, and I was SOOOO happy for that. Now, the real question, since those spoiled Tide fans are already whining about it, will Saban go to Texas, I heard a rumor that they upped the ante to $12M/year for a 5 year deal and 2% of the revenue from the Longhorn network, but cannot validate that anywhere. If so, that is some BIG money.
Gelston

Actually Bama was giving up less then 91 yards rushing a game before they played Auburn. Auburn had 300 yards on them. Georgia was the second ranked rushing defense in the SEC when Auburn played them and ran for over 300 yards on them. After that it pushed Missouri from 3rd to 2nd in rush defense. AU put over 500 yards on them. FSU is a very good team but to say they have athletes better then Georgia and Alabama is just stupid. Like Gelston said .. Auburn doesn't care about your pass defense. Everyone knows Auburn is going to run .. they just can't stop them. Think about this Tre Mason has about 300 carries this year .. he's had only 7 plays where he lost yards. Right now the new strength of schedule was release and AU was ranked number 1 while FSU is at 38. It will be a great game.

Wait, so people actually think Auburn might win this game?
Gus has some serious mojo on offense, Auburn will score points. And with the speed FSU scores, I don't doubt Auburn will have a lot of possessions. But I don't see Auburn scoring more than 5 TDs.
The difference will be FSU's offense vs. Auburn's D. If Jimbo doesn't throttle back, I expect they'll put up over 50 pts. Maybe over 60 if Auburn scores quickly enough to give FSU more possessions.
Two things are certain - one, it'll be an entertaining offensive game. Two, FSU will win by 3+ scores.

I am not trolling in the least with the FSU will destroy Auburn comment. The only chance they have is if Winston plays the game he's not played all year (ie, he throws 3 picks and just looks terrible). If Winston plays a normal game, FSU will roll all over Auburn's defense. Auburn's not scoring more than 5 TDs on FSU's D. They have the DBs to play man-to-man on the edges and put 9 in the box, which Alabama should have done. I think Nick got cocky about his defense and didn't want to admit that Gus has that offensive mojo. Playing for all the marbles, Jimbo won't let his ego get in the way of stopping Auburn's rushing attack. The game could be 55-35. Or is could be 55-10. The question is not whether FSU will win - but by how many touchdowns.
I am trolling a little bit with the Saban to UT post. I think it's a possibility, but mostly I brought it up for the lols.

This post has bipartisan approval.
Auburn has a good run offense... and that's about it. They can't stop the pass, they can't stop the run and they can't pass. If you were Jimbo... wouldn't you put an extra body or two to defend against the only thing Auburn does well?
The first half will be close... it will be a blowout by the time the game is over.

I've never heard either of them mention wanting to retire in Tuscaloosa. Even if Tuscaloosa were a cultural hotbed (it's not), why in the fuck would they want to retire in a place where they couldn't even go to the grocery store without being hassled by some crazed bammers? That's just stupid.

Pretty happy with the Big 10 so far. Nebraska and Wisconsin are leading. Iowa's going to have a tough time all day. Hopefully they can get on the board and turn things in the around in the second half but that's not looking too good. Michigan State v. Stanford should be a great game and we're still getting warmed up for THE Ohio State University in the Orange Bowl. Hopefully Meyer won't punch a Clemson player like Woody did in the Orange bowl 30 some years ago.

Yup. All the coaches from Oklahoma were saying how the SEC just wasn't that good coming into this game and we just reinforced it with bullshit. Too much time off for everyone to think about their NFL aspirations. I think AJ and Kouandjio's stock in the draft should fall. AJ was about as bad as I have ever seen him and proved he can't think while moving his feet multiple times. Kouandjio had penalties and was getting ripped by their pass rush.
I guess if it isn't the championship game there is no reason for Alabama to show up.

Let's talk facts real fast: Auburn played their best game of the season last night. Awesome job by their defense. But it wasn't enough to beat an underperforming FSU team.
Fact is that FSU is significantly better than Auburn. Even on an off night, they were able to handle the best Auburn had to offer. It is clear from last night's game that FSU beats Auburn 9 out of 10 games. Can't say enough about how amazing this FSU team is. Assuming they don't have too many underclassmen leave (particularly on the O-line), they've got a great shot at repeating as champs.

Auburn lost that game in spite of it's ridiculous special teams play.
Grading them out for the game - Auburn's special teams got an A.
In fact, here are each side's grades for the game.
Auburn
Special Teams - A (would be an A++ if not for the missed FG and the botched coverage)
Defense - A (would be an A+ if you ignored the fourth quarter)
Offense - A- (really outstanding job against the best defense since Miami in the 90s)
FSU
Special Teams - B (due solely to their kicker being a stud - the rest of their special teams were awful - they had so many opportunities for game-changing TOs off of muffed kicks and didn't get a single one)
Defense - C (F in the first half; B+ in the second)
Offense - C (couldn't tell whether their offense was terrible because bad field position forced bad play calls, or bad play calls forced bad field position - but that was the worst FSU's offense has looked all year).
As you can tell, the evidence shows that Auburn played by far its best game of the year while FSU played its worst. At least all of us got to see an entertaining game.

That would be like grading an exam by 1 question only. Auburn's punter consistently pinned FSU deep all game and because of Auburn's coverage, forced FSU to fair catch everything.
Yea, they let a 100 yard TD to happen and missed a FG, but they played extremely well all game long.
I give them a B.

I had forgotten about the roughing the punter penalty. That brings them down to an A-.
The fake punt conversion is on the coaching staff. They were not expecting a fake punt so deep in FSU's own end. The conversion was good because the players executed the play called. Unfortunately Auburn's perfect execution on that play doesn't bring their special teams grade back up to an A.
Thanks for reminding me of the roughing the kicker. I appreciate that you helped all of us arrive at the correct grade. Since you've been so helpful, I'll share the credit on coming up with the grades with you.

Well, it looks like Auburn's defense is going to get an automatic F for cheating.
Turns out Dameyune Craig, who used to be on FSU's staff, was relaying all of FSU's offensive calls to Auburn's defense.
FSU figured this out after their first drive in the third quarter (you can hear FSU WR Kelvin Benjamin tell Jimbo "Dameyune callin' out our plays" on the broadcast). FSU brgan using towels to disguise their playcalls after that drive.
After that, FSU "won" 24-10.
In other words, FSU should have won 48-20, which is pretty much the score I predicted a month ago.
New grades below.
Gelston's and Keller's Revised Report Card
Auburn
Special Teams - A- (would be an A++ if not for the missed FG, the botched coverage, and the roughing the kicker penalty)
Defense - F (caught cheating; automatic F)
Offense - A- (really outstanding job against the best defense since Miami in the 90s)
FSU

You are claiming FSU as an SEC team and calling him the bandwagon jumper? Get real dude. I am an SEC fan, but FSU was the better team that night. Don't make up bullshit excuses.
Keller's trolling the shit out of him.

FSU was basically an SEC team.
Why am I not surprised that the S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C! contingent wants to adopt the best college football team in the last decade into their conference.
Truth is, you can have FSU. They nearly lost to Auburn. Think about that. How embarrassing it is to almost lose to this Auburn team?
The answer is really, really embarrassing.
At least FSU didn't lose to Auburn. That would be unbearable.

That's really the best picture you could find of Erin Andrews? Your argument is invalid.

as an Auburn grad and someone who went to the game our special teams were off that night. Honestly, if I could have changed just one thing it would have been Parkey's performance. He's our kicker and he is normally lights out. I heard that he had hurt his back before the game and that might explain it. But he lead the nation in kick off's through the endzone for the season. So our kick off coverage just never got much work all season. In the game on Monday he couldn't get the ball through the endzone. You add that missed chip field goal and well. I'm not blaming the kid he's been great all year, but it was costly. Overall as an Auburn fan I couldn't be happier with our year. I was hoping for 8-9 wins and well, it's been so fun. Our defense needs help and Ellis Johnson our DC did miracles with what he was given. We have a few players on D but there was a serious lack of SEC talent back there. Of course Gus is a wizard. We'll be good next year also, so watch out. War Damn Eagle!!!

I couldn't agree more.
Y'all were the best team in the SEC this year and return the best QB in the SEC since Cam. Most of the other decent SEC teams lose their QB (Alabama, LSU, Georgia).

More good news for the Buckeyes:
Commitment No. 22 for the 2014 recruiting class is in for Urban Meyer and Ohio State as the Buckeyes have landed a pledge from Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Ready offensive lineman Brady Taylor. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound prospect made an official visit to Ohio State this weekend and has informed BuckeyeGrove.com that he has decided to switch his pledge to the Buckeyes from Virginia Tech. - See more at: http://ohiostate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1599053&PT=4&PR=2#sthash.tahMfmxY.dpuf
...and more typical news for the SEC:
Alabama cornerback Tony Brown has only been on campus for a few weeks, but he is already making headlines for the wrong reasons.
Brown, one of eight Alabama freshmen to enroll early in Alabama’s class of 2014, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with resisting arrest and failure to obey. According to AL.com, Brown was “hit with pepper spray” after threatening Tuscaloosa police officers and refusing to obey their orders.

The rich keep getting richer:
http://news.yahoo.com/alabama-rules-signing-day-again-usc-surges-011219238--spt.html
Alabama signed six of 33 players given five-star ratings by Rivals, including Rashaan Evans, a linebacker from Auburn High School who didn't decide to roll with the Tide until Wednesday, passing joining his hometown Tigers.
No other school had more than three five-stars.
"He kind of lapped the field," Tom Lemming of CBS Sports Network said about Saban.
This marks the third straight year and fifth time in the last six years Alabama has Rivals' top-ranked class.

BACK OFF TEBOW!
Well, the conversation ended up lasting eight seconds, and made it onto Ohio State's report of violations from the 2013 season to the NCAA.
"Upon receiving the call, Coach Meyer informed Garrett that he was on vacation and having lunch with friends and family, including Tim Tebow. Garrett asked Coach Meyer if he could wish Tebow good luck on the upcoming season. Coach Meyer handed the phone to Tebow and Garrett conversed with Tebow for approximately eight seconds. Coach Meyer stated that no recruiting conversation occurred, there was no intent to have Tebow recruit on behalf of Ohio State and he, in fact, did not recruit on behalf of Ohio State.

I'm sure Ohio State is trying to become ineligible for Bowl Games again so they can go on about how awesome they are again without the risk of heavier non-conference competition that comes in bowl games.
