In proper defense, IQ tests are only used to determine the potential ability at which someone can learn. That's why it's used to determine learning disabilities.

My mother has an IQ around 170. I've seen the paper work. She's not Steven Hawkins but she's one smart woman. Multilingual, multiple degrees, Retired AF Officer and retired teacher.

My father's is just south of hers around 165 or so, I'm not 100% because we haven't talked about it in at least a dozen years. Multilingual, multiple degrees, Retired AF Officer and retired teacher.

You don't have to be honored as super smart to have the IQ. Most people with high IQ don't really care what their score is because they're way too busy doing or learning things that interest them to care about a trivial number that insecure people use to prove their useful, whether they are or not.

The scoring on IQ tests is such that the mean is 100, the standard deviation is 15, and the distribution is normal. There are therefore approximately 10000 people alive today in the world with an IQ of 170 or higher, as long as you assume that a person has a given IQ throughout their lifetime.

Obviously a baby will score low on a test because it is a baby. I also refuse to entertain the idea that empirical IQ grows with age beyond reaching adulthood.

The quality of IQ test is certainly a question in this context.

An IQ of 171 could only be accurately verified by a verbal and written test provided by a live proctor. If this process hasn't been done, then the claim of a 171 IQ can be readily dismissed.

Gotta go with Anticor here, I know when I took my ASVAB a gozillion years ago, I apparently scored in the top .1 percentile and in 22 years of service no one ever wanted to test my IQ, as far as I am aware, and I have friends that have served in every branch of service, no one has ever had their IQ tested by the military. It serves no practical or even impractical purpose; it just cost money, not that Uncle Sam does not like to waste money, but he would rather buy a $10,000 toilet seat than spend money on some ridiculous test.

And yes I know it is a 2 year old thread, but it is new to me damnit!

The application process in my company for engineering positions has six phases. When a candidate makes it to the fifth phase, we give the person four tests to help determine whether the candidate would be a good fit. An IQ test is not one of them.

My favorite parts of this were Tillmen calling Neelin out, but Neelin being too caught up in the mob mentality to see any form of reason.

And all of the people who said "Well, this didn't happen to this person I knew, so he must be lying!" Well, just because your friend's friend's friend (twice removed) didn't get IQ tested or have their brain picked doesn't mean they don't do it to anyone?

And the "OMG HIS IQ IS THE SAME AS A WORLD CLASS CHESS PLAYER, HE MUST BE AMAZING AT CHESS!" argument... Chess is about study, practice, and experience. Being highly intelligent doesn't make you good at chess. It doesn't matter what your IQ is; if you've never played the game you're going to get floored by a novice with a general understanding of the game.

Then "My company does this!" Is your company the military? "No." Then wtf does that have to do with this? As Tillmen said, there wasn't any evidence against Nairdin, just a big mob with pitchforks and torches lead by Neelin. GS mob mentality, either with them or against them.. Glad some things never change.

Major Kudos to Tillmen, though, always the neutral, and he knows no one can say fuck about it because.. he's the God of LNET.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what his IQ was or if he was lying or not. Even if he was, is that a reason to get a whole group of people talking shit about him? Because he claims to have a high IQ he doesn't have feelings? Lets just attempt to beat him down as hard as we can because it will make us feel better about ourselves? Fuck that, be the better person next time.
