Guarding your pockets is no longer difficult with thiefwatch!
Before using this script type ;thiefwatch setup and complete each line. Once setup start the script and it will close every container you specified in setup, afterwards it will run in the background and 10 seconds after you
open a container you listed in setup it will close that container. Additionally it will warn you when a thief you have specified in setup is in the room and it will automatically WATCH said thief. No further warnings or
WATCHing will happen until the game automatically has you stop watching that particular thief, which happens a few seconds after the rogue leaves the room or hides.
Stopping the script will open all containers you have listed in setup.
Also there is an option to have the script automatically open the proper container to get item when you type "get my <item name>"
Nothing is required on your part for this functionality to work correctly, except of course to type "get my <item name>." So far this only works for nouns, so "get my runestaff" works, "get my kakore runestaff" will not work.
There is also a "silver check" option you can set to any number and if your silvers on hand ever goes above this number the script will inform you of this every 2 minutes until your silvers on hand drops below this number.
Also typing "bankrun" at anytime while the script is running will run to the nearest bank, deposit all of your silvers and run you back to your original room.
Script tracks all instances of you gaining and losing silvers. Every 30 seconds it will perform a check based on how many silvers you should have and how many silvers you currently have, if there is a discrepancy it will inform you of how many silvers it is off by and warn that it could be the result of a theft that your character couldn't see. This process is all automatic and invisible to you, requiring no effort on your part.

Cool, but it's easy to write aliases to open and close all your containers. I guess the not-easy part is remembering to use them. Don't have to worry about thieves when you have no coins on you and everything is closed. But just in case, you can add a highlight string for when you notice someone getting all up in your pockets. Mine is like yellow with a red background.
;alias add ccon=close my XXXX\rclose my XXXX\rclose my XXXX\rclose my XXX\r, etc.
;alias add ocon=open my XXXX\ropen my XXXX\ropen my XXXX\ropen my XXXX\r, etc.
I also have aliases to open and look inside a specific container, and aliases to close a specific container.
;alias add jack=;eq silence_me; multifput "open my jack","look in my jack" if dothistimeout("look in my jack", 5, /In the|That is/) =~ /That is/
;alias add jackc=close my jack

But this is automatic, everything is always better when it's automatic. Just ask Latrinsorm.

I have a pretty sweet script for this, too:
put prep 213
waitfor You
put cast 213

Shows what your know! You could just do put inc 213, I just cut your script down by 24 characters.

Updated script. Script will now automatically look in any container you open up.
Also there is an option to have the script automatically open the proper container to get item when you type "get my <item name>"
For example:
>get my runes
[thiefwatch]>open my cloak
[thiefwatch]>get my runes
Get what?
You open an obsidian-clasped night black spidersilk cloak embroidered with a tiny prowling kitten.
You remove a polished kakore runestaff topped with an ebony snarling kitten from in your night black cloak.
[thiefwatch]>look in my cloak
Nothing is required on your part for this functionality to work correctly, except of course to type "get my <item name>." So far this only works for nouns, so "get my runestaff" works, "get my kakore runestaff" will not work.
I may or may not fix this at some point in the future.

This thread and related scripts should be deleted! Haven't the pussy GMs made stealing difficult enough without a roving fucking gang of thieves? The days of rapid-fire pickpocketing and losing 10k silvers and a boatload of gems before you blink are long ovah.

Ironically enough my inspiration for this script were the people who reported Leash for using his sanct breaker because according to the GM who gave Leash a warning it's impossible to expect people to always keep their containers closed. Well now no one has an excuse. No one. Not even the dark prince himself.

If people want to give me lich id rooms of courthouses in each town I can add a prompt that will ask if you want to accuse someone who you caught stealing from you and it will run you to the courthouse, accuse the person and run you back to where you were.
So far I need room numbers for....all towns.

Why do you hate thieves so much? They're just trying to earn a living that they otherwise couldn't do because they're being held down by the man.

It's all part of my plan. Everyone else will keep their containers closed so thieves will be forced to fish through my pockets more often.

I'm so confused it's not funny. So, in this here roleplaying game someone was given a warning for:
1. Using a pickpocket system that was implemented probably 20 years ago which has been the mole in Simu's nerf bat whack-a-mole game and beaten so bad that it's almost impossible to be robbed of anything of real value.
2. Using an item created for the sole purpose of breaking sancts to... break a sanct, allowing thievery.
3. Stealing things from people who are too stupid to keep their containers closed in a game in which they all know damn well that sancts are not permanent, ever (certainly not the minor sanct variety, which everyone knows can be broken with items and/or demons).
That GM should be fucking canned. "Impossible to expect people to always keep their containers closed." Fine. My response would have been something along these lines: It's also impossible to expect people to maintain possession of things they have in open containers in a game that allows, by designed fucking mechanics- I mean, I could understand if dude was using some bug to steal things-, thievery. Especially when I, a thief, am around.
Also, fuck the people that did the reporting. They shouldn't be given things like this. What they deserve is a group of thieves marking them as weak-willed, stupid, loot pinatas and treating them as such. I have no faith that the kind of bitch that reports for this sort of thing will not find something else to validate the violations against them and the ruining of their enjoyment of the game. It is, in part, because of people like this that I have no desire to step into Prime.

Did you miss out on this thread (http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?86344-The-woes-of-the-sanct-breaker) subzero? You should read it for the laughs and forehead slapping funnies.
Also my bad, I got the GM's quote slightly wrong. She said "Xayle says, "It's rather impossible to leave a container always closed when you camp out in the main locksmithing area and people have to open their pouches to put things away."
Which is almost as bad.

He got in trouble for cutthroating and garroting people who cast 213 and for disturbing a CHE event, getting kicked out of said event, then returning and disturbing it some more. This has nothing to do with his sanct breaker or pickpocketing.

Why do people choose to ignore the part where the GM threatened to remove the sanct breaking item for "harassment" and the part where she whined that people can't always keep their pockets closed? If you read that post how can you say the only concerns were with his garroting people? Xayle obviously hates the pickpocketing skill and sanct breaking items.

Yeah, I'm guessing that thread was in a Prime-related forum, so I'd have never looked. Since I'm stuck on a mini-vacation I really didn't want to partake in, I may check it out.

No, it's just as bad since they can still avoid thievery entirely. See, if I'm being stolen from in a picking area or even believe I may be a target, I have this awesome ability to put the whole box right back where I pulled it from to get it opened. Then I can make my way to a secure area, unload the goods, and if a return is necessary for tipping, do so with nothing but the tip. If it gets lightened, the smith gets what I've got and I'll mention there'd have been more had some not fallen out of my pocket the second I arrived. Let them hash it out.
I also have a bad habit of being a sorcerer. I'll curse stuff and then put it away. At that point, I'm basically daring them to try to get something. Free blastins on thieves when my curse hits'em and I find my clear zircon stuck in their mits (oops! Did I leave that pouch of useless cursed gems open on the top of my inventory? My bad).
edit: Live blog time! (well, not really, but...) I started reading that thread. I got to this part here, "Xayle says, "You're using that item to circumvent mechanics in order to impose your will on other people." and determined that Xayle is an idiot. I'll keep reading, but it's clear this guy is a real maroon with some pretty stupid ideas (You're imposing YOUR will using an item, but it's totally cool if other people use equally valid means to impose their will on you because using an item to repeatedly knock out sancts isn't cool in my book).
What the fuck would Xayle do if this guy got a couple sorcerer friends to go around with him on his looting sprees so that he only needs to knock down a sanct now and again while a demon is present to prevent another sanct going up?

From the looks of that log I would imagine Leash would get a warning for "abusing game mechanics."
Also another version of thiefwatch on the repo. This new version has a "silver check" option you can set to any number and if your silvers on hand ever goes above this number the script will inform you of this every 2 minutes until your silvers on hand drops below this number.
Also typing "bankrun" at anytime while the script is running will run to the nearest bank, deposit all of your silvers and run you back to your original room.

Yay another update.

This process is all automatic and invisible to you, requiring no effort on your part.
Example where my character saw the theft, just to show that the numbers match up.
You notice uber thief reach into your pockets and remove 53 silvers.
[thiefwatch: There might be a thief about! According to my records your silver on hand is off by 53.]
Example where my character did not notice the theft.
You close an obsidian-clasped night black spidersilk cloak embroidered with a tiny prowling kitten.
You close a rune-etched mithglin-bound weapon harness.
[thiefwatch: There might be a thief about! According to my records your silver on hand is off by 93.]
