For all of us stuck with crappy insurance companies in Jersey, Geico is now writing insurance policies here. I had them when I lived in CT, and they are very reliable and very cheap.

Tip for life: It's better when you don't live in New Jersey.

Geico is not cheap by any means.
They quoted me at $4500 for 6 months. (full coverage)
USAA was only $1200 for 6 months. (full coverage)
I ended up going through my dad's insurance company with only PIP, and dont pay shit.

I don't pay 4500 a year for full coverage on 3 vehicles .... now 5.

The shitty thing about all that was I'm military, and they couldn't cut me a break.
"Save 15% on your car insurance with Geico."
15% off of a hijacked price is all I see.

Heh, sucks for you. I paid $850 for a six month policy. My guess is that the kind of car you were trying to insure, and your past insurance history have some kind of factor in all of that.

It all does, though my driving history is squeaky clean.
Must have been "Fuck you up the ass." month at the office.

What year and kind of car were you insuring?

I use State Farm. Being 19 and driving an SUV kinda sucked, but now I average a little over 100 a month for insurance, and it'll drop more when I hit 25. No complaints here.

Yup, mine is going to drop by a significant amount when I hit 25.

I always saw those ads for Geico and I was like "Why aren't they here" and my parents just said cause jersey drivers are psycho... but we're quite happy now, we're gonna move my brother on there before he finally gets caught drinking and driving and raises the rest of our insurance.
I had Geico till my car got stolen. It was the cheapest. USAA was trying to take me up the ass and I had my loan from them. wtf.

LOL, and you *wonder* why it was so high. Is it red too?
And if you were a *real* street-rodding Camero owner you'd own an SS. ::rolls her eyes::

Convertible anythings hold a higher premium.
I just checked up on coverage for the convertible metro I brought home last weekend and it will be 25 dollars more a month than the "street-rod" premiums I pay on the lumina.
And real men don't drive Z-28s, real men don't give a shit about badging.

You of course saying this because you own a Lumina.

My GEICO quote is ~$167 cheaper than my current Progressive renewal bill. I've been with Progressive for 4 years, but think it's time to leave and save some money. I have until 2/6 to decide, any thoughts?

I've been perfectly happy with Geico. No issues at all, and fairly cheap. I switched over to them from AIG. Geico saved me a shitton of money a year for the same coverage over AIG.
15 minutes could cost you 15% or more in car insurance...
On an edit: The cheapest I found so far was a smaller local insuance company. Coverage isn't as good but the wife and I havn't had an accident or ticket in over 5 years in either of our lives so we really don't NEED amazing coverage imo. I turned 25 last year too so prices dropped substantially again. = Insurance now for 2 cars is only $63 a month.
2005 ford focus - Full coverage (wife's car)
1990 honda accord - liability only
Just to give you something to compare to I guess.

Holy 6 year bump. I started reading the other stuff too, first. Then I was like, "these people don't post here any more."

haha, I did the same thing.
I'd call progressive and be like "hey, geico offered me this, can you beat it? plz circle yes/no"
Worst case scenario they say no, and you switch anyway.

yeah, I did that. Progressive has been great service-wise, and the woman on the phone was very helpful. She said I had 90 days to return once I canceled.

umm, once you cancel, cant you just sign back up again at anytime?
I dont think they'd deny you if you called back 120 days later
"nono, we no longer accept your money"
Seems strange to me? Unless you were getting a 'large discount' for being a continual member for 4 years?

I would get the same renewal price and my accident forgiveness status, instead of having to start over

Lol that Camaro link reminded me of a prank I pulled a couple weeks ago.
Ran into one of my Marine buddies at Hooters in Clearwater. He just got one of the brand new Camaros and I left a vague note on it with fake insurance information citing that I scratched his car but didn't say where.
He has pretty bad PTSD and OCD. He spent nearly an hour looking over his car before finally calling the number I left on the note. Poor guy.

Check with Erie Insurance. I pay $435 a year here in NoVA and have a 2010 car (it's a Ford and I'm 38 though).

thanks, I asked for a quote and should get a call today, I'm not sure if they'll give me $0 deductible comprehensive. The online quote wasn't very detailed in terms of the extras.

Hopefully this stays the case for you. I haven't had a ticket in years, but my last accident was someone else rear-ending me. You better believe I was glad we had collision on our policy and not just the required liability, since that was our only car and it was completely totaled (SUV was going almost 30mph when he hit my compact car).
I know our current policy costs a little more than what we could get with another company (even with the multi-policy discount for also having homeowner's with the same company), but I really appreciate the service we get from our agent, everyone in his office and the company as a whole. (Nationwide, for those wondering.)
i have had progressive for over 10 years and they have always treated me well and been the cheapest.
They dropped my rate once a few years ago when I called and told them I was thinking of switching.
we have a 2009 4wd truck and a 2005 suv full covererage no deductible, no one else comes within 200$ of their rates

State Farm is ok. Sort of expensive but my driving record is not too great. I've had them for 13 years.
They were acting shady in Houston around Ike though. Ignoring phone calls. Canceling peoples coverage without notice. Refusing payouts for cars damaged during Ike. Weird stuff.
