Thank God Andrea is dead. Should make this season infinitely more bearable, unless Rick starts seeing her ghost around too. Fucking Rick. Jesus.
Good set up. The production value is still there. The actress of the crazy woods lady put on a pretty compelling performance.

Meh. I thought it was a pretty weak season opener. I hope the promises of things going crazy with a quickness in the next couple of episodes is true.
I mean, come on. All those walkers are wandering around on the roof, and the big ass helicopter is up there, for all that time, and they just happen to start falling through the roof when the group is in there? Lazy.

I agree. They've begun shark jumping. The special effects were especially terrible and they cgi'ed where they should have been more discrete. The new characters were all so clean, well dressed and 1 dimensional. We've also exhausted the limits of the guy who plays Rick's acting abilities. I would like to see him and Michonne hook up though. They'd make a good couple.

It was okay. It almost felt like I was watching it because I felt I had to rather than because I wanted to.
Even though two people died it just seemed too peaceful for the most part. I want blood and guts and guns and rocket launchers and running and sweating and sex and rock and roll.
Not necessarily in that order.

I agree. I also liked the performance of the crazy woods lady, but I felt that Rick was too soft with her. Like, dude why are you all sad? You've seen this a million times before. Also, what is the deal with that little nerd kid? What the heck happened to him? I felt like I missed something. Did he get bit or are they going to have something happen inside the prison, like some kind of virus?

I thought he just slipped in the shower and hit his head on something and came back as a zombie, as people do in this universe. Apparently reading up on some reviews though apparently he had some sort of virus, I dunno. I'm just here for the candy.

Well during the story telling, he said he wanted to puke and to be excused. He then went into the shower room and collapsed. It just didn't show anything leading up to that. He was fine one moment and then sick 20 minutes later.

His eyes, post death, also match the eyes of the zombie that Rick took notice of in the opening scene so it's a new manifestation of the virus and, since they had the kid coughing all over the place (including in an open water barrel) it's probably airborne.

Which will add a nice little twist to everything and ruin the sanctuary of the prison.

Also, they really didn't update us about the situation in the world now. It's supposed to have been about six months since the end of last season, but they didn't talk about anything. How many people have they brought in since then, and how many total are in the prison now? Where did these people come from? They've been at that prison for like a year now, and Woodbury was there at the beginning, so it seems unlikely these are people who have been in the immediate area all this time. What's going on with Woodbury? Is it just vacant now? Hard to believe nobody would have come across the town and realized it's still mostly well put together and most of the fortifications would still be in place. No mention of The Gov, so are we going to be told at some point that he's just been laying low not too far away and harboring a massive rage boner for the group?
I'm with ol' Terrence Boneme the First. I started off kind of excited and by the end of the episode I felt like it was back in the middle of last season and I was watching it just cause I had to.

There were some lines about taking in the people from Woodbury but the total population seemed too small. Considering that Woodbury is one hell of a resource I can't see any reason why they're not using it. If they did take those people in they have a lot mouths to feed.
What was the deal with the boar? Was it killed in a trap? I couldn't see any obvious reason for it's death and thought that perhaps the virus was spreading to animals.
They've said that at some point this season they'll explain why the group chose to remain in the prison and why Woodbury is not an option for them anymore.
My wife was all like "It's swine flu its swine flu!" when that kid died in the shower. I guess she was thinking about the dead pig out in the pen. Whatever it was, it juiced that kid pretty damn quick.

I think we're going to see one of a few things:
1) a sickness that, if not directly causing the zombie-ness, has a really high fatality rate and thus de facto zombies.
2) Turned animals, with possible transmission via live animals or consumption of dead animals. Which will be awesome as hell if they can get good trained animals with some decent CGI'd effects. Ramifications being that you can't really eat meat any more unless you kill the animal via decapitation outright. No more trapping!
Speaking of which, the dead animal where Rick met the woman - I literally thought it was going to be a zombie animal. And I thought the woman was a zombie too, even after she started speaking. Like, she had a mutation which prevented her from turning fully. Turns out she was just filthy.
And what's up with Bob the medic? That dude sketches me out.
Also, did anyone sense a bit of sexual what-what with Beth and Daryl at the end? Jesus, what a redneck, it would be awesome.
And Michone did come off as rather motherly towards Carl.

My question is what's up with the big black guy? Last season he couldn't kill humans (pussy!) this season he has a problem killing zombies up close and far away. What's up with this dude? Zombie fodder!
His sister is a bad ass though, she's on my zombie survival squad.

On Talking Dead some dude said something about how the guy never liked violence and he's basically being mentally worn down pretty bad by the constant violent struggle to stay alive, or something like that.

So they live in a prison in a world where people come back to life as flesh eating zombies after they die and no one thinks it's a good idea to have locked doors of some kind while they sleep?
It's like they're not even trying anymore :(

Or!!!
I would have built titanium arm/leg/chest/neck guards already. No biting through that.
Of course I would have built a 10 inch bladed weed wacker already to mow 'em down.
..it takes them 10 seconds to spear a walker through the fence. There are at least 6 people spearing walkers, there are no more than 60 walkers milling there. How do they let it get to the point where the walkers push over the fence?
I feel as though the writers wanted to get to the destination (Rick forgoing farming to be the enforcer again) and came up with the method for the change (donating pork to the walkers), then worked backwards.
Because really, why not just bring a truck out to plow those walkers down? I mean, you have outfitted a truck with a cattle catcher type device right? Because pretty much every post-apocalyptic movie I've ever seen shows cattle catchers on cars and trucks, it seems like the thing to do.
And of course, were I living in Zombie Town, I would leave my door open at night and not have anyone on night duty, because nothing bad will happen. I mean seriously, they have like 30 people, once a month someone stays up to make sure you're not eaten in your sleep. Or heck, have a curfew, and close your door.
I like the show, but it suffers from way too many predictable tropes and the writers aren't exactly Breaking Bad caliber.
My wife was all like "It's swine flu its swine flu!" when that kid died in the shower. I guess she was thinking about the dead pig out in the pen. Whatever it was, it juiced that kid pretty damn quick.
I thought it was obvious, but lets be honest here.
1. Viruses that kill quickly don't spread quickly.
2. If 99% of humans are dead, and the ones living aren't doing much travel, how exactly does a virus get introduced to a community, especially one that needs very fast travel through large populations to spread because it kills so quickly?
Spontaneous mutation of an animal virus, from an animal in the prison, with that kid being patient zero? Can Rick's group not catch a break?
In this situation, more likely than a virus like influenza, you'd fall victim to something that is more hygiene based, like a contaminated water supply, or other bacteria infection. But the writers seem to obviously be going the virus route. I wonder how long until Michonne loses her sword and thus her power and spends a whole season in Shogun era Japan searching for it.

The problem is, in a Zombie world like this, once you have made it past the first few months, generally zombies aren't the issue anymore. They should really never have a single issue with zombies on the fence.
CRB is right tho, the plots has so many holes in it when it comes to zeds like this that it isn't funny.
I mean, at this point it's been what, 2 years or so since Zday? Where did they find domesticated pigs? Wouldn't the zeds have gotten those already? They haven't bothered to bring back any cement with them and reinforce the fence?

I believe they were killed and then burned.
ya with the size of that blood trail they were killed in the cell then dragged out.
Also... I love how Rick wasted gasoline burning pallets for little apparent reason. Remember in Season 1 when gas was like the holy grail? I guess the oil companies are working again?

I took it as he was burning whatever contaminate might have been in the pig sty. Also let's guess on who could be killing the sick and burning their bodies. I vote for the little weird girl who Carol gave a knife to, for defense purposes.

I don't think she'd be able to drag a corpse like that though.
As much as I hate to say it, this season is starting out just as stupid as how season 3 ended.
People sleeping with their doors wide open and nobody on patrol is stupid. Like bad B movie "I'll just leave the group and walk down this dark path for no reason" stupid.
Letting zombies pile up on the fence and doing nothing about it until the fence is about to fall over is stupid. People should be clearing them out daily. You'd think that after enough dead zombies are piled up outside the fence, the stench would mask the living people in the prison and zombies would stop coming.
Rick feeding the pigs to the zombies killed my buzz. He could have at least stabbed the pig in the head first and killed it instead of just slicing its leg and throwing it to the zombies. The zombies still would have eaten it.
My main problem though is that there hasn't even been a mention of the governor or anything even remotely involving that conflict. It's as if it never happened so far.
That, and the lack of chain mail, as previously mentioned.

More characters from Woodbury have died then we've even been introduced to yet.
Tyreese and his sister don't count. We've been introduced to I think four little kids (two of which weren't in the second episode), that one slightly older kid who died at the end of episode one, Tyreese's girlfriend who died, that younger girl's boyfriend who died at the supermarket raid, that ex army medic guy who toppled over the shelves of booze and that one guy in the second episode who seemed to have knowledge as if he was a doctor or a nurse before all hell broke loose.
Seems like they are in a hurry to kill everyone off from Woodbury and move on.

I just saw the episode, and I have to wonder how a zombie noms on a person in a cell block full of people without anyone hearing him until there is a critical mass of noming zombies to cause a problem.
The holes are piling up.
I do think, though, that the rat feeder/body burner is the same person, and that that person is a sabateur planted by the governor. They did say they've been taking in people for like a year since Woodbury.

Pretty slow start to the season all around. Hopefully it starts to pick up soon, which I expect it will what with the rats being eaten at the fence, possibly while being fed from the inside, and the failing perimeter.
now they, in the same conversation, talk about a natural flu remedy from the woods, and going to a vet hospital to get antibiotics....
Antibiotics are for bacterial infections, they've been playing this up as a virus, (airborn, fast acting, etc etc etc) and of course, influenza is a virus.

He did say the stuff from the woods would just treat the symptoms some and not actually cure anything, and that the symptoms of it are what's killing people.
And why did they expect to go to a university and have it not be packed with zombies? Though I did like the stickdeath part.
