So..James left me this trilogy by R.A. Salvatore when he went back to Florida a few weeks back and I just have to say..wow. I have been so enthralled in this epic tale of Drizzt and his companions through life that I barely find time now to even get online!
I am truly amazed that I had never stumbled upon the greatness that is the writing skills of Mr. Salvatore before this but James definately gave me a new favorite writer in his leaving the novel!
I am at the middle of the third and last book of this trilogy and it's killing me because now I have to wait for James to send me the Icewind Dale books to continue this story of my new obsession hehe.
Anyone else read this tale? If not, I suggest you do so immediately and be prepared to be enthralled in it's magic.

I read a book or two..and that's big for me cause I'm not much of a bookworm. But I agree, that's a badass trilogy.

I read the trilogy a few years back, I loved it.

I think the thing that surprised me most was that the females in drow society are the superior ones (although hey I always knew we were hehe). But yeah, it's by far the best book I've read in a long time.

I read the hardback all three books in one in 8th grade.
Picked it up that morning, went to school and read it till I fell asleep that night. Yes, that's right, I read the entire trilogy in one day - it's that good.
I also suggest you read the DragonLance trilogy. If you like it, branch off in to the mini stories too (even though the mini stories have 7+ books in them).
Wheel of Time is ok, but it gets old quick.
I'm a Fantasy nerd.
I'm in the third set... Legacy of the Drow. I took a break and read his Demon War series. (plus a bunch of other books I'm too lazy to list right now) I switch around from fantasy to Southern literature to just about anything that interests me.

Well I started this book a week ago and have read so far 700+ pages so yeah I'm VERY into it heh. Every night after we get done playing gemstone (IF he can pull me away from the trilogy that is) James (stun's player) and I talk on the phone and I'm always spouting off about some part of the book that amazed me, shocked me, made me laugh or cry etc.
Last night he told me that I have to read Icewind Dale next, then the Cleric Quintet and then the Legacy of the Drow. *whines* I'm already frothing at the mouth at the thought of not having another book in my hands to start on when I'm done with this trilogy in 2 days or so.

I read DragonLance throughout middle school. Good books, but pretty cliche and formulaic.
I read The Cleric Quintet also. I'm probably like a lot of people. If I like one book by the author, I'll read everything they have written.

R.A. Always has, and always will be my most loved author. The entire Drizzt...hrm..<insert word bigger then Series here> is very well done. A lot of people I know have problems with Spine of the world (including myself..) but other then that, I've never not finished one of his works.
If you enjoy RA, might I point you twords Ed Greenwood? Ed designed, crafted, and brought the world of Forgotten Realms alive. He is a good friend RA's, and they tend to leave hints on eachothers people in their books.
Weedie. You should be posting in this thread now ;)

The joys of being new to a series that has been out for a while! I remember being blown away when I read them the first time and was able to have the whole thing in front of me. They go a lot faster than you would think they would.

I have Adredrin's copy of the Cleric Quintet, but I have to admit I still haven't read it yet. Either he will get around to taking it back or I will get around to reading it eventually. :)

Yeah, well I have already read up to the 800th page just tonight due to my over eagerness to finish this book and get to the next one. Seriously, it's the first time in a LONG time that I've felt the book pulled me along rather then forcing myself to read it. I'm loving R.A. Salvatore right about now heh.

I really liked this first six or seven books by this author, then they just got rather old or I didn't like them as much. I think I have one called a thousand orcs (or something) that I read maybe a hundred pages and haven't picked up since. That was four months ago that I bought it. But the good thing is he has an established series so you don't need to really wait between each book until you're done.

I've read all the Drizzt books, and while entertaining (especially in a D&D sense), they are far too...kidified for real enjoyment. I like to read about sacrifice, pain, loss, something to make the characters alot more real. Still, they are good fantasy books, and I'd recommend them to anyone.

Odd Stray, I felt there was plenty of sacrifice, pain and loss in the Dark Elf Trilogy I have been reading and am now finished with by the way :)
The storyline in my opinion was very well written, drawing the reader into it rather then making us force ourselves to finish a boring part to get to another exciting part heh. The sacrifices of Drizzt's father Zak, his brother Nalfein's death at Dinin's hands, Clacker's death, the death of the human family on the surface, Mooshie's death, the many many adventures that Drizzt went through, not to mention the hundreds of well written fights that almost appear to be real when reading them.
I dunno, I'm just hooked lol
Heh, The icewind dale trilogy is the first one. You're out of order, and I read the entire dark elf trilogy the next one, and the 3 books in the unifnished series in less than a week and ahalf.

Chronological order is why I gave her DET first.

DET is Drizzt's escape from the underdark, then the icewindale one. DET, is probably the best.

I want to read The Hunter's Blades Trilogy, but the third book hasn't come out yet. I hate getting into a series then having to wait a few months to finish it.

Which is why I don't own that set. It's either all or none for me.

He came by on a book signing tour my freshman year so my copy of The Thousand Orcs is all autographed and spiffy lookin. I just now finished The Lone Drow. It was good stuff. I think the last one comes out in hardback in october sometime. Pick up Realms of Valor and Realms of Infamy if you can. Those are a collection of short stories from various authors. RA Salvatore has one in each of them. I'm pretty sure those are the titles.
Take Adredrin's suggestion and check out Greenwood's stuff too. My favorite was The Making of a Mage.
The Avatar Trilogy is a good one too. Lots of books allude to it so you'll be missing some things if you keep on trucking thru Forgotten Realms stuff without reading em.

Wait till you meet Wulfgar. I try and pattern Kadumi's fighting style after him.
