View Full Version : High disarm skill = less exp from easier traps?

I've always thought you got full experience from traps no matter what your disarming skill is because I remember seeing rogues get excited over seeing traps because it meant more experience, even if I was bringing them low level boxes. Am I wrong here?
I know having a high level picking skill and using a vaalin lockpick on a kobold box really lowers your experience but does 403/404 affect experience gained as well?

My gut instinct is to say no, but I have only my anecdotal evidence to support that. My rogue is 55 trains, he has not hunted in 5 trains other than to get boxes for lock mastery but still learns well from everyone's boxes, as you pointed out, using the proper pick.
I am facing a similar question in reference to lock mastery, that is, if I am using a rolaren pick to get a box and I can get a rep on it, but my calipers lie to me, as they often do, and I use lore, I still seem to get the rep, just with a much lower or no RT.
So my feeling would be that the experience learned is a function of the trap disarmed not the skill vs trap disarmed. And lores are just a bonus, like having more skill ranks would be.
Take that for what it is worth, since my rogue is really trained as a hunter first and a picker second.

I'm not sure if trap experience is flat based upon trap difficulty or if it's skill vs. trap difficulty but it's probably the latter. We know that picking exp is skill/lockpick vs. lock difficulty. 403/404 reduces your exp by 1/2 or something like that. I tend to not think about the things that can't exactly be optimized so I don't really know.

Capn, from a logic standpoint what you say would make sense, however, it just does not seem, from my limited experience, that is how my rogue learns. Admittedly, he learns more when he disables a -300 from a massive troll king than he does from a -180 from a shan, but the shan does seem to provide at least half as much. But to your point, he has to use lore to get a -300 and he does not for a -180, so perhaps you are correct. If that is the case then it seems that lore must be a freebie on guild task and not taken into account, only skill, lockpick, and lock difficulty. I base that on Tsoran's formula for getting reps on a specific difficulty box and figure out what I need based upon current skill. That seems a huge advantage for a 2X rogue with lore over a 3X without.

Well I have no proof either, just anecdotal evidence, but I do know for a fact lore does effect your guild rep chances with lockmastery... putting lore on (depending on lock difficulty) can cause me to not get a rep, when I know using that same pick without lore (and that lock difficulty) would have netted me a rep.
The thresholds are different though, much easier to get reps with audience tasks than pick tasks.
As far as traps go, again I have no actual numbers or evidence, it seems that I learn more on traps closer to my skill level than ones trivial to me.
