I'm sure people know about this, but I thought it would be nice to have here for posterity. :)

GemStone IV Schedule Adjustment · on 8/19/2003 12:15:04 PM

Over the past several weeks, a large portion of the player population has requested an extended testing period of GemStone IV - one that would not affect their characters in GemStone III. Many wish to have a lengthier period of time to test how all the systems work together as a whole. We agree that such testing would be beneficial for the product, for the developing staff, and for the community that is busy learning the ropes in the new Elanthia.

Therefore, we are announcing that the testing period for GemStone IV will be extended for at least one month so that all players have an opportunity to fully test completed mechanics. Aside from being updated for accuracy, the schedule of events (located at http://www.play.net/gs3/news/gemstone_iv/schedule.asp) will not be changing - all Phase I features and enhancements will be released before September 10th. As such, this testing period will allow players to fully familiarize themselves with the new mechanics and features introduced in GSIV as well as plan for proper reallocation of their characters. The GemStone III game instance will be up and fully functional until the launch of GemStone IV.

While these projects are not at the forefront of the community's mind, it's important to remember that several other enhancements require testing in conjunction with all the new game features and enhancements: the new StormFront Front End, the new Point and Click interface, several Game Engine enhancements, the new Graphical Character Manager, the character conversion system, and the new Skill Migration System. Additionally, our entire website is undergoing a massive overhall as much of our artwork is updated and almost all of our documentation is rewritten.

Aside from a couple of delays (not uncommon in a development project of this size) GemStone IV development is successfully continuing on pace. However, we feel (as many of you do) that the product will be more successful with a longer and more thorough testing period.

We thank you for your feedback on this matter and hope you will continue to provide such helpful information in the coming weeks of testing.

Good to know that the game we all play and pay for, is still run by a set of complete fucking idiots.
