polearms are teh bombzor for OHC, more DS than brawling + shield, less tps

I sold my guy before these new spells came out, but a polearm swinging cleric really sucks in OTF. I could kill pretty much anything with one channel of 302. Keep thinking it's cool to spend 20 seconds killing one critter, though.

All I do is OHC 302. This is the best way to do it. Sucka

Yeah but you could trade in those pole arm ranks for more magic ranks, use a runestaff, and be able to do things like invoke scrolls, use magical items, and cast fire spirit (which is great for swarms at higher levels).

And get more spells.

I like the defense of polearm and having a decent swing

Wow... and if you over train in magics you can easily make that up.

So polearm DS is better than brawling/shield...and how good is the bolt DS with the polearm and no shield with 0 dodging ranks?

Also, whoever said that going runestaff gets you more spells ranks is wrong. It takes alot of mental TP's to generate runestaff DS which means less mental TP's for spell ranks.

Actually if you look at the number of spells he has... he's almost fully triple trained in it. Missing only about 6 spells.

Your current training is missing 48 spell ranks.

What his plan did accomplish was to niche a significant batch of TP's into a skill he admits he never uses.

I didn't exactly say that. All I said was he could get more spells. But anyway, you don't need to use that many TPs to use a runestaf.... The base training is 8 magical ranks per train. And you can easily get 9-10 ranks per level while being fairly close to trippling spells. Go for around 2.5x spells or less, and you can have even more.

it is useful

You swing a wire bound shafted naginata at a rolton!
AS: +353 vs DS: +28 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +2 = +357
... and hit for 166 points of damage!
Vertebrae in neck disintegrate from impact!
Neck sinks into shoulders.
The rolton collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
The guiding force leaves you.
The scintillating red light surrounding the naginata fades some.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

+40 naginata, with all those crazy Cleric/Major Spiritual AS spells, Council, and 117, is a decent swing

Kitsun

However, what you are missing is 47 ranks of CM and the AS to go with it. Not to mention the Combat Maneuver boosters. And you're a halfling. The disparity between what a physical class and cleric can generate will only grow as you gain levels.

I'm really not trying to knock your chosen training plan. Whatever floats your boat. I'm just pointing out the weak spots.

Mistomeer

For a cleric, you can have about the highest AS of any class up till about 35. That's the easy part. When you get after 50, is when it gets difficult.

MrThorbizzle
09-01-2004, 11:22 PM
yeah, sucka

I'll be really curious about your bolt DS around 75 trains.

Omens agrees that Polearms can be powerful

>kill omens
You swing a wire bound shafted naginata at Omens!
AS: +432 vs DS: +233 with AvD: +29 + d100 roll: +87 = +315
... and hit for 111 points of damage!
Hard slash to Omens's side!
Left arm no longer available for use.
He is stunned!
The guiding force leaves you.
A dark shadowy tendril rises up from Omens's skin, writhes its way up a wire bound shafted naginata towards you and lashes out malevolently...
CS: +353 - TD: +194 + CvA: +12 + d100: +28 - +20 == +179
Warding failed!
You feel the sudden rush of a disease overcome you.
The scintillating red light surrounding the naginata fades some.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
!R>kill omens
You swing a wire bound shafted naginata at Omens!
AS: +357 vs DS: +227 with AvD: +29 + d100 roll: +22 = +181
... and hit for 37 points of damage!
Slash to Omens's weapon hand!
Several fingers fly!

* Omens drops dead at your feet!

The air calms down around Omens.
The deep blue glow leaves Omens.
The white light leaves Omens.
The very powerful look leaves Omens.
A shadow seems to detach itself from Omens's body, swiftly dissipating into the air.
The bright luminescence fades from around Omens.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around Omens.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves Omens.
The light blue glow leaves Omens.
Omens glances around, looking a bit less confident.
The powerful look leaves Omens.
The silvery luminescence fades from around Omens.

A small elf child cries out, "Murder!". His mother then sends him off for the Guard Captain.

The scintillating red light surrounding the naginata fades some.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

Heh, that's a dumb spell to use for retribution.

MrThorbizzle

especially since I know Unpoison and if he had any type of stunning spell - Mind Jolt, Limb Disrupt, etc I wouldn't have been able to finish him off.

he dumb.

its interesting to say the least, but honestly if you are going to go for a swinging pure you need to at least 1x cman ranks, take it from a wizard thats fully maxed in two handers and fully maxed in cman with somewhere between 2-2.5x spells 25 ranks of MIU and AS, and also as a cleric, some brig armor would be nice for your defenses. I recently made a 2hw swinging sylvan cleric for a friend and i'm sure its still under the Cleric post cause i was asking for help, but i got it all figured out on how i was gonna do it, and for the time being he's very very killer and TP's work about just right.
