You forgot that he was currently running his bonus, which multiplies his -3 logic by 6 points, so -18. Hence your argument can not be countered by another argument, because an argument multiplied by another argument is double argument squared, hence when you try a 180 coup de grace, you are actually doing a 360 stabbing yourself in the chest. You would then vanquish yourself, hence winning the argument, and therefor having to release your soul to reach the lord sooner than your opponent. You gain 12 gold, but 50% would be taxed, so really only 6 gold, and -5k XP because you departed, hence reducing your level to below the level of the other guy you were trying to vanquish.
